    As I draw nearer to my big 6-0 birthday, I’ve been doing a lot of reflection on the life choices I’ve made that led me to this point.

    I think one of the first mistakes I made was in high school. I chose to enroll in an elective course called “Career Planning”. Now, on paper, that might seem to be a wise choice. The reality was far different. Because the instructor and the course materials wrongfully assumed that:
    A. My parents were wealthy enough to put 6 kids through college.
    B. My grades would be good enough to land a full academic scholarship to Harvard. Or, at least a welding class at the local junior college. Wrong again.

    So, my point is, that not once was a realistic career option ever mentioned. Never was I informed that there are guys making a living by rubbing baby oil on swimsuit models.

    I was never told that you don’t need a degree to recruit for “Girls Gone Wild” productions.

    Nobody told me about the lucrative and exciting world of adult film production.

    I only learned recently that there are people who get paid to shoot live ducks out of an air cannon at aircraft to test the damage done. I could have totally done that.

    Nobody told me I could make a career out of inseminating farm animals. After further research this turns out to not be as much fun as I initially thought.

    Anyway, had I not wasted my time with that class, I might have been free to find realistic opportunities on the street. Like drug dealing or burglary. If I’d only known then what I know now.
