If you have the factory hitch, which you do, then good to go. Same with a 7-pin connector on hitch - if u-haul they will sell you a 7 to 4 pin adaptor or Walmart has them some with an LED red light showing its plugged in. The 2nd gen 5 speed auto use 4th gear for towing unless long flat runs then 5th (or D) usable. 5th is overdrive so trans gets hotter but there is an OT trans temp light on the dash so don't worry. Mileage often discussed so between 8-12 based on speed/terrain/winds/weight. There is a forum Tow Bible so if in doubt read that massive set of posts. Watch your loading and tongue weight so the Tacoma rear does not sag down and hit the spring stops. Put a trailer hitch lock on the hitch pin and the coupler release so no one can disconnect the trailer. Then a heavy lock on the trailer door and park under lights and in view of the entrance or your room window (don't park way out back in a dark area). Better hotel chains are well lighted but the budget ones so so. In the shell put a cheap tarp over the stuff so not visable - don't ask to get broken into. On your original post I differ that all the expensive stuff should go into a closed lockable trailer with no easy way to break into. U-haul sells the big storage door locks that will fit the trailer of course. The cab and shell are easy to get into. Just relax, slow down, and enjoy the drive.
