Hey people. I need an engine for a truck that my father left me when he past away. It is a 2000 tecoma that has a 2.7 4 cylinder engine that has overheated a few times and quit working. I have since taken it out and apart to find that it has burned two holes in one of the rings and the machine shop wants $400 to rebuild the head and I am hoping to find another motor for that or cheaper please help me revive this truck so I can relive memories of being with my father

Not sure a motor for less than 400$ is realistic.

Hoping is the key word here. I doubt that's gonna happen.

    Some questions.

What do you mean by 'burnt two holes in one of the rings?' What rings?

Refreshing a head for $400 is pretty inexpensive. Exactly what would you get for those $ ?

How many miles on the motor, and other than being allowed to overheat, how was it cared for otherwise?

If the bottom end is still good I think $400 is a super good price. A junkyard motor would be more than that plus the labor to install it.
