Outside Temp Replaced with Compass Reading in Rearview

Always wondered about this. My early Gen2 Tacoma (pre-facelift) showed outside temp reading in the rearview and my later Gen 2 Tacoma shows a compass reading.

 

My 2014 TRD Sport didn't have either in the mirror when I picked it up at the dealership despite the spec sheet saying it should have it. I bought one that shows both and installed it myself. Power was already in the headliner but had to run a temp probe wire to the front of the engine bay.

 

Weird.
Mine were 2009 TRD Sport Temperature
2015 TRD Sport Compass.

 

My 2010 TRD O/R has both compass and temp but in a thing that replaces the forward sunglasses pocket, I installed a mirror that has Temp and Compass in it and don't use the factory one, wasn't as accurate anyway.

 

It's kind of a weird transition. With 2016+ the digital dash shows temperature, and the mirror compass remains, despite also having a compass on both dash and nav screens.

The mirror temp display has been discontinued for a while though.
