I posted the message below privately to Jeff Lange, but I wanted to repeat it here to see if anyone has had a similar problem or can add illuminating information. Thanks in advance to everyone who reads and considers.

Hi Jeff. It's Lori, who bought new Tacoma SR5 Access Cab in August 2020. At the time, I was asking on TacomaWorld if part no. PT767-35160 Cast Aluminum Running Boards would fit my vehicle (when I bought it, it came with Predator Steps, which I abhor). I would have bought these from a dealership, but they retail for almost $800, which even Toyota Parts Departments say is "ridiculously too high." It seems that sometime around 2015 (2016?) this part number morphed into PT767-35190 and the "160" ending numbers were retired or "suppressed." Several places on the internet say these will fit (e.g., https://www.sparksparts.com/oem-parts/toyota-cast-aluminum-running-boards-pt76735190), and one, least, Amazon, say they won't (https://www.amazon.com/TOYOTA-PT767...um/dp/B017BYX8GK?crid=1NHAWBI6KW1T9&keywords= C0EBAFD8-7047-4938-9A2D-203E0C9E8F60_1_201_a.jpg 1F7982EC-598C-47CB-B957-8807327DB766_1_201_a.jpg =tacoma+cast+aluminum+running+boards&qid=1646059843&sprefix=tacoma+cast+aluminum+running+boards%2Caps%2C146&sr=8-2). About a month ago, after waiting about a year and a half, a pair came up for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and I bought them for $300. The first photo is from the back of the newly-purchased running boards showing the OEM part number (PT767-35160) in moulded plastic. When I took them to my local mechanic to install, he said they don't fit and showed me the second picture attached. Now, I have 2 sets of Tacoma boards that either don't fit or I don't want. This past weekend, I drove to the Toyota dealership nearest me and presented my dilemma to them. The plugged in my VIN number to their system and said the official part number for my truck for these running boards is PT767-35190. I told them that's what I have and their only solution was for me to come in next week and they will put the car up and see if the part fits... for $145... whether they fit or not (I can stick my head under the truck and plainly see that there's nothing to bolt the screw onto). I would like not to spend another $150 if I don't have to, but I also can't/won't spend $700-$800 for a new pair of PT767-35190's, which is what they said they would order for me if I wanted to solve this truly problem (right!). I think the mixup here happened when the part number changed, which I think was in 2015 (as the guy I bought these from told me they were taken from his wife's new Double Cab 2015 Toyota). Going forward Toyota must have wanted the 190's to fit both Double and Access Cabs, but the 160's prior to the change fit only Double Cabs and not Access cabs. What is your advice here? What would you do in this situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Lori

I suspect, but haven't had a good chance to look at them because they aren't sold in Canada, that the rear bracket can mount to the board in more than one location. The instructions state to install the brackets on the vehicle first, then line up the front bracket with the front of the board and work back from there.

Can you post a picture of the underside of the board? I haven't been able to find one anywhere.

Hi Jeff. I don't know if you know how much you help people, but you've certainly helped me... on more than one occasion. Your answer about other possibilities for the position of the rear bracket sort of opened the whole thing up for me, and gave me the answer I was looking for. It's an answer that a major car servicing establishment in my local town and two Toyota dealerships nearby either didn't think of, weren't aware of, or evaded. As soon as I turned the newly-purchased running board over, it's plain to see (Picture 1) there are 3 additional positions that the third bracket can be mounted in. After that, it took about 20 minutes to install them with the help of a friend and a 13mm socket wrench. No "it'll be $210 to install," "we charge by the hour, $180, and it will most certainly take over an hour," or "it will be $145 to take a look at, but you must pay even if these are the wrong size, 'cause this is our guys' bread & butter." Picture 2 is the Predator Steps that came on the vehicle when I bought it new, and that I've lived with, much to my chagrin, for over 17 months. The final pics are the newly-installed cast aluminum running boards, and I have to say they look superb. They are brand new and cost me $300, when the retail price is almost $800. Once I sell the Predator Steps, I will only be out a small amount for brand new running boards that I love. I wish you lived nearby and I would buy you a six pack or a nice bottle of wine. Is there a way I can send you something in Canada... other than my true gratefulness for helping me solve a problem that's been bothering me for a long time. If karma is a boomerang, you have some mighty fine vibes coming hour way.back of running board.jpg Predator Steps.jpg Running Boards 1.jpg Running Board 2.jpg Running Board 3.jpg
