Came a across a unicorn. A brand new 2022 tacoma trd sport v6 4x4. I initially wanted a 2wd because I know for a fact I will rarely if ever need a 4x4. what are your thoughts. I won’t be towing anything. No boats or trailers, I may go to the Mountains here and there but nothing crazy that a small truck couldn’t handle.

Considering the times, What are your guys thoughts on buying a 4x4 when knowing I will rarely or if ever use it.

Thanks again guys. Any info is appreciated.

It will be easier to sell a 4x4 when it comes time to get rid of it.

4X4 is like carrying a firearm in your car.. it’s either there when you need it or not there if something arises

Better to have 4x4 and not need it, than to not have 4x4 and need it!

I have the 2021 TRD Sport 2x4. Took it to the beach and pushed the button to engage LSD which engages both back wheels and it kicked ass. So I'm glad I didn't spend the extra $6000.
There is U-tube videos out in which 2x4 Tacos are keeping up with 4x4 guys on crazy hills and trails.
I admit I do carry a shovel just in case.

4WD is nice to have, but they cost more to maintain.

    1. Front Differential Service
    2. Front Driveshaft greased regularly
    3. CV axles
    4. Transfer Case Service
    5. Electronic Actuator for both Front Differential and Transfer Case.

95% of time when I use 4WD, is to NOT spin tires and cut ruts in damp/wet yards when pulling my utility trailer. Other wise, I could probably get by with out 4WD.

I do like the idea of having 4WD though.

Just pulled a guy with a 2wd truck up a mild hill yesterday.

I've had a couple 2wd trucks over the years and have been unable to make progress when a 4wd had no issue.

Only 2wd that interests me now would be a 1 ton that's just for towing.
