    Hello Everybody,
How is everybody doing? We have a 1999 Tacoma with the 3.4 V6. We use Castrol 5w-30 full synthetic motor oil. I know that if synthetic motor oil is used, oil changes can done every 6,000 or 7,000 miles. Unfortunately, we only use our Tacoma a couple of thousand miles a year. Is it safe to keep oil in it for up to three years. We live in Seattle, WA.
Thank you in advance for all of your replies.
    Take care,
    Paul Muzinich

The reality is that if you're extremely concerned about it- wait a year after the oil change, and send an oil sample off to be tested. Everything else is just going to be personal preference.

No but really, I do mine every 6 months regardless if I hit the mileage.

Bit excessive for some sure, but I'm the one buying the oil not them.

If you're asking this question, your motor is essentially already all but blown up. It's a lost cause, and you should get rid of it before it becomes more of a liability.

Where do you live? I'll give you $500 just so I can take it to the scrap yard.

My high school autoshop teacher said he did all his cars seasonally. Like 4 times a year. He drove POS domestic V8s, though, so understandable, lol.

A buddy in highschool had this Ford that we said burned more oil than gas. So he never really needed to change his oil.

Once a year minimum. If it sits longer, just change before you drive it.

It’s a good idea to drive your vehicle every now and then if it sits. I’d say at least once a month for a few miles. This will keep the oil from settling and seals from becoming hard. In general you need to keep it running regularly, especially in the winter.
Your oil will be fine then.

Do mine every 5K Kms using full synthetic. Ends up being every 4 months with my driving habits. A bit excessive maybe but oil changes are cheap peace of mind.

I've changed the oil in my '96 2.7 Tacoma every 5,000 miles since new using non-synthetic 5w-30 Pennzoil and Fram oil filter and have 415,000 trouble-free miles on it. So I will stick with that.
