Yep, its only welded to the angle iron at the top, it just slides right into the can mount. If I unbolt it from the rail, I just pull up on it and the mount comes off and the can mount will stay where its at.

I thought about making 2 bars that just bolt right to the header, but I didnt have enough supplies laying around so I used some scrap angle to complete it.

One thing though with these mounts, the header rail is the only one it works on, the side rails are not 90 degrees to the bottom, so the can sits at a angle and doesnt fit well.

That works for me, I plan on putting it on the passenger side of the header rail. (which I had to add to my '21)

I like to think I fish... But then I see other fisherman posting their gear and realize I just go out to shut everything else off, zone out and drink beer. Pretty sure I'd be okay with a kiddy rod... I saw a cool "paw patrol" one at Walmart the other day. Lol.

No no, we go out for the same reason, we just got caught by the gear designed to catch fisherman not fish.

here is the thing.. sure you can go buy a wallmart ready to fish ocean rod and hook up a 8 ft shark(ive done this) but that rod is no where near what is needed to actually expect to land that shark. also some of the nicer stuff is made for certain things like being able to cast far or the feel in the strike because of the way the rod bends in certain spots.

yes there is a lot of gear that is made to catch a fishermans wallet but a lot of the more expensive gear really does have a purpose.

yeah Im not denying there is some great gear out there. I started with ugly stik gx2 rods, now I have st croix premier rods, but I still like the feel of the gx2s, they are like bringing a bazooka to a paint ball match.

Hands down am always fishing on a budget, just bought a tandem kayak, so for me it will be a hitch mounted bed extender.
Also gotta get my gf a rod or two. Probably gonna stick with ugly stick since thats all Ive ever known and none has ever failed me.

Trailer hitch for sure; pulled a utility trailer for years with heavy fishing kayaks, and happily towing a bass boat these days.

Camper shell was also super useful when I gutted and rebuilt my previous boat; held all my tackle and random stuff I'd normally have in the boat. Also just nice for lockable dry storage.

My ice rods are ugly stik gx2 rods, after using my buddies super cheap berkely rods, my ugly stik rods feel like they are premium.

Like Erik, I got the SmittyBuilt jerry can holder too. But instead of welding anything, I bolted two flat aluminum bars to the holder. Bars are just long enough to reach the bed rail, with holes at the top for bolts into the rail t-nuts.
Mine isn't as nice as Erik's in that I can't remove it in a city-second. But it takes no more than unbolting from the rail. I do lock the holder and the can, because it is so easy to remove.

Will try for a photo later if you want one.

For sure, post a photo if you can. My Smittybilt carrier is being delivered today so I'm still open for mounting ideas.

Fishing gear designed to catch fisherman. No truer phrase has ever been written. I'm a little older than most of you. Started fishing back in the 60's, before there was even plastic worms. The Texas rig had not even been invented. The first plastic worms came pre-rigged with two exposed hooks on them, and a spinner at the front! Forward through the 70's, the Golden Age of fishing: explosion of soft plastics rigged Texas style. Then the 80's, the advent of the Carolina Rig. And the Rattle Trap. About that time Johnny Morris started Bass Pro Shops. Game over: mass merchandising of the sport. With a degree in marketing I quickly recognized the product placement, the explosion of bass fishing marketing to the masses. That is the point when the marketing started to go after us, not the fish. It wasn't about the fishing anymore, it was about developing the perception of need in the minds of anglers, causing them to covet the latest and greatest gear. Even though I knew what was going on I succumbed. Sold a Ranger 350V to buy the sixth Skeeter BayPro center console ever made, in 1992. Lowrance electronics, X15 paper graph, best rods and reels (only one shimano, because it was 7.1:1), but the rest Garcias, I was young and had to have it all. Berkley's best new rods every year, but I never bought a G.Loomis I am proud to say. Then I took a long look at my addiction. Sold the gas hog Skeeter and downsized in 2005 to the boat I have now, a simple, plain-jane 18-foot Kenner with a 90 Merc, all the boat any man will ever need. The gas savings from what that 3.0liter Johnson used pushing the Skeeter actually paid my $168.10 monthly boat note. I haven't bought much fishing gear since 2007. Retired all that stuff as fishing antiques, most of the Garcia's put back in their original boxes and stored away for my grandkids to discover when I am gone. Now, I fish with the plastic Garcia reels you can buy for $39 on sale at Walmart, mounted to $11 Lightning Rods that I bought on sale on Berkley's website during their yearly flash sale. And having more fun doing it. My tackle consists of a 100-count bag of crappie hooks, and a bag of split shot sinkers. I use only one rod, because if you are on the crappie there is no time to bait a second rod. And if you have time to bait a second rod, well then, you are fishing in the wrong place! I do have 46 pounds of every plastic worm you could buy between 1986 and 2000, all so old that they are new again, the bass don't remember what they are. And I am the only angler on the lake throwing them. The envy of whoever fishes with me by the third or fourth fish: "Hey, how many of those you got? Can you spare one?" My tournament-fishing son-in-law marvels at what I pull out of those tri-fold soft plastic satchels, and how I strap it on him using them. He's never seen most of what is in there.

Fishing is about fishing, not the gathering of equipment. When you come full circle as I have it finally sinks in that it is more fun to do more with less equipment. (I leave a 32-foot Southwind motorhome at home in the shop, preferring now to sleep in a hammock in crappie camp.) When you make this transition your equipment and its upkeep no longer owns you, you own it. Have fun outfitting your equipment, but like previously posted above, fishing is about drinking beer and fellowship with friends you love. And frying them up on the bank. When you get to be my age, you don't cherish the equipment you own, you cherish all the memories you made with friends, and the memory of the taste of those fish. That is the true wealth in life.

Well, that was a fun read. Cheers.
Side question, due to your avatar - when, where, and what karts did you race? (Hate that I'm hi-jacking the thread.)
In 69-72 I raced International (Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Hong Kong, & Singapore). My first 1st Place trophy was presented to me by the Prince of Thailand.
Ran mostly Westbend engines, a few Comets, and saw a LOT of McCullochs. Good times.

Now THAT was the golden days of karting! You were in high cotton there! What chassis did you run? A buddy of mine had a Bug cart with an 8hp Westbend on it from that era. Former racing kart his dad bought him for fun in the neighborhood. 63mph in the neighborhood. No clutch, just straight chain! Two sprockets and a chain. You'd crack the throttle ever so slightly, run while carrying the back of the kart and then drop it to crank the Westbend, and then run along side and hop in. You'd hope you didn't crack the throttle too much. Several times we watched it start and leave us behind, wrecking in the ditch. Half-moon gas tank mounted to the back of the seat, and a megaphone of an exhaust header. No back pressure to pack the next air/gas mixture into the cylinder and thereby aid torque/hp, but hey, we were in the fourth grade! Running a two-cycle racing kart around the neighborhood! We learned how to read a sparkplug and jet the carb correctly before we were out of grade school! We never stuck a piston either. Did all our own work on that thing. With dad's tools, of course. Great learning experience.

I ran International Kart Federation, Shifterkart "A" license with the Southwest Roadracing Association here in Texas from 1998 until Hurricane Rita destroyed our home in 2005. All long-track roadracing, no sprints. Favorite track was the 2.56-mile roadcourse at the old NASCAR track in College Station. Bought the Tony from a guy who had won the IKF Roadrace Grand Nationals there in 1997 driving it, then almost lapped the entire field in winning the annual invitational street race that they held in Monterrey Mexico two weeks later. Best ten North American kart drivers against the best ten from South America. It has pedigree, and runs like a scalded dog, but I could not do it justice. I only ever ran mid-pack+. I am proof that the best equipment does not put you on the podium. You gotta' have a little talent too! I swam on scholarship in college. Very familiar with being physically challenged to exhaustion. A fifteen-minute race in a shifter is more strenuous than any workout or any race I swam in fifteen years of competitive swimming.

Meanwhile, back at the fishing mod ranch...
