You had muddy water in your diff after doing the mod?

TBQH, I’m still skeptical about diff breather mods. Many say they are a must, but no one provides any evidence.

My truck has seen plenty of water (hard to avoid in Minnesota), albeit I try not to expose it to extremes. I’ve seen the aftermath of mistakes firsthand. I am curious what my diff oil will look like when I change it.

That’s not much of a test. Just saying. :)

Well, as far as mods go, a diff breather extension is cheap and easy. It was the first thing i did when i got the truck. Call it piece of mind.

Cheese and Rice brother! It does not appear that you have even a remote understanding of what it means to "test" something.

Then, you really didn't test it.

I've definitely been in over the diff height with the mod and haven't checked mine. Just assumed that it worked as advertized.

Shit with water over the hood I'd be alot more worried about pulling water into my engine than the differential. My buddy hydrolocked and threw a rod through the side of his block in his GX470 a month ago in similar depth water.

Bottom of the doors is about as far as you want to take it, leaving a bit of pucker room for anything that you can't see. You kinda hit the limit.

My first Taco also. It is crazy capable and has not let me down doing some fun stuff.

The part to be mindful of is your air intake at the bottom of your inner fender, splashing in the engine bay doesn't mean anything. The intake is part that makes me pucker because it's pretty damn low. My buddy hydrolocked in surprisingly shallow water, it just takes one bad splash to get an intake full of water. That's why I don't eff around with deep water. I'll beat on my truck in the rocks over water any day.

And I think the other guys were saying it wasn't a test because you didn't actually check your oil to see if water got in (but honestly I wouldn't either if I were you)

No snorkel? That looked kinda deep with water going over the hood and all. Kinda risky eh?

Just an FYI.....I had a stock Chev 3500 dually work truck that never did any water crossings but did get a lot of snow and ice packed up in and around the rear diff due to a lot of snow-drift busting down closed roads and driving 24/7 in the worst Canadian winters.
I was really good with maintenance and after one really nasty winter I changed the rear diff fluid and it was way over-full and completely milky from obvious water intrusion. The diff housing, breather, axle and front seals were all fine so the only place for the water to get in was through the stock breather (possibly frozen open) We figured snow and ice was melting and running down into the diff.

My point is that remote breathers aren’t just for people who do water crossings, they can be a good idea for those of us who live in the snow belt too....
