Hey y'all. I'm new to this forum and somewhat mechanically inclined but nowhere near most of y'all and I'm looking for some help. I have a 2008 Tacoma trd sport. I've had the truck for 3 years and in the last week it has caused me more problems then ever before. Which was none. I recently seized up my power steering pump causing the belt to shred. I replaced the power steering pump and put a new belt on. Now I have a major oil leak. It's getting on the belt somehow and slinging it all over the engine and the hood. I soaked the motor and all in break cleaner then proceeded to pressure wash it. I turned the truck on to see where it was leaking from and still can't find it. My question is, would replacing the power steering pump cause something like this? Also it looks like it could possibly be leaking from behind the idle tensioner. I find it hard to believe it's a freak accident after replacing my power steering pump it decides to dump oil everywhere. Any input or help would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard of the belt shredding and taking out the front main seal on these trucks, I'd start looking there.

Thanks for the quick response 07. After dropping the skid plate I found where it's coming from. The bottom of one of the pulleys. I believe it is the front main seal. If y'all could confirm for me. I'm going to post pictures

Bottom side of that pully from what would appear the seal or gasket is.

That's the harmonic balancer, right behind it is where your front main/crank seal is.

Don't let your engine run out of oil. You ought to park it until you can get it fixed.

Thanks again 07. I'm keeping it parked right now. What goes into replacing that seal? Having to rip everything off the front to get to it? Or would I be able to just drop the skid plate and do it from the bottom. Also I imagine the harmonic balancer is pressed in. So I would have to get a puller for it?

I haven't ever changed one, I'd imagine @Torspd could help with this one. Maybe he'll chime in soon.

I had mine replaced when my water pump was replaced. Mechanic didn't charge anything for changing the crankshaft seal since everything was already out of the way.

 Once you unbolt the crank pulley, it should slide right off with a little giggling. The with a phillips or something not to sharp to gouge the aluminum, you can pry/pull out the front seal. Needle nose pliers even. Grease the new seal where it will contact the crank pulley. And carefully tap it back in.

Awesome Torspd. Thanks for your help. Do I need to remove the bumper, radiator and fan like I've read. Or could I access and change it from dropping the skid plate?

Skid plate, and maybe the fan. If you do have to remove the fan, leave the belt on until all of the 12mm nuts are loosened.

I know this an old thread but I'm having a similar experience with my 06, 4.0.
It started with my local shop changing out a bad alternator. All appeared well until I started smelling oil 2 days later. I looked under it and the belt and front of the engine was soaked with oil. The oil level barely touched the dipstick and the inner part of the belt against the engine was shredded, it was also one groove off (toward the back).
After adding more oil and getting the belt back in the right position on the pulleys, I ran it to see where the oil was coming from. It is hard to see but it appears to be coming from the front main. The main pulley/balancer appears to have recent wrench marks, not sure if the shop removed it for some reason.
Today I hauled it back to the shop and asked them to make it right. I'm just hoping it didn't screw anything else up.
