Dealer tune

Does anyone know if dealers can install a tune similar to KDMax under warranty if you tell them you don't like the shift points in the transmission?

 

No. Get it done and you can always flash back to stock , if you are hesitant of dealer snooping in the PCM

 

Sorry but I'm not very smart about tuning. Do you get a controller with it that I can change myself or would I have to take back to the tuner before dealer service? The only tuner is over an hour away for me. Does anyone know how the Speedform Throttle Controller or Pedal Commander compare to KD Max? Thanks.

 

Throttle controllers don't change anything about tuning, just make your throttle more sensitive (less input for more throttle).

 

Just get the Frontier or Ranger if you don't like the shift points. If you have to have a Toyota, and still don't like the shift points. Get a tune and don't worry about what might happen as a result of the tune.

 

Man, I’m a complete noob when it comes to computers and ECU tuning. I was able to do it without any issues. Just follow the instructions and you are good to go.

 

Betcha cant even get your dealer to disable the seat belt or door open chime which is outlined in your owners manual as something they are capable of doing. No way they'd install an aftermarket tune

 

If it doesn't have Toyota on it my dealer won't touch it, no matter what it is. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a dealer who would do something that technically violates Federal emissions rules. If you want a tune go get one done or buy the equipment to do it yourself and own the potential consequences.

 

KDMax is the best mod I did to my truck. Period.

 

The days of Yenko Chevrolet, Royal Pontiac and various other performance oriented dealers are long gone...........

 

Plenty of dealers still offer performance upgrades. Far from long gone.

 

AFAIK when you take your truck in for service, the dealer won't know you have an aftermarket ecu tune, although a service tech who takes it for a test drive will probably be impressed with how it drives but still have no clue as to why.

In any event mods do not void a warranty if the part failure is completely unrelated to the mod.
