Yeah I read they are no longer allowing you to setup an offline account I’ll say allegedly since I have not tested myself. But on win10 I always use offline accounts so hopefully they revert that change by the time I need to upgrade to win11.

Yep. Users are pissed off to say the least. Part of the reason why I quit contracting for MS in 99'
KEEP RESETTING THE NEXT UPDATE. srsly

Since I lived 8 miles from MS HQ we had fiber in 2010 (might have been sooner). Can't imagine being on cable. It was free on install since we had old copper lines running to the house - and I knew it o_O

I'm running it with a local-only account, but I did the upgrade from Win 10. Not sure if a clean install allows it.

Nailed it. Clean install and factory install requires internet, that isn't changing anytime soon.
We all got fucked with the 5G rollout.

You need a Microsoft account now to setup Windows 11 Home. Pro you don't, for now, but they're hinting you will soon.

Here the largest copper cable provider sells a "Fiber" package that's still copper from the hub to the house. I laugh every time someone calls that fiber. It may be 1 gig download under perfect conditions, but usually it's more like 0.2 gig with .01 upload lol.

Hence having internet to run it.

Since MS went with apps instead of dedicated fp and most all apps upgraded to run on 5G networks...

Still wut. I'm not getting how 5G, which is fifth generation broadband cellular, has anything to do with Microsoft going to an "always talking to Redmond," model. I mean even if you're trying to say most business laptops have cellular comms built in they still mostly use LTE cards to save a buck. Even my brand new Dell, which is a 2022 model for work, uses LTE not 5G.

Yes, companies want an IOT model now to gather high value data and allow for further device integration. However it's not linked to 5G, it's been happening since ADSL days and is just going forward harder now since internet is more common than food in homes now.

Sorry, I have a "blame 5G," pet peeve. 5G has barely been deployed at this point. Very little mm and mid band deployment, mostly just piggy backing LTE frequencies which really isn't what 5G is about. Blaming it for anything now is really just blaming LTE for being everywhere lol.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

It took three installers to get it right. The gal that came out knew what she was doing to ditch the copper line and run FO to the house.
89+ up, 11+ down, it's gotten better since then. Unless you opted out of Amazon's 'neural network' (colossal joke) or never had anything attached to it anyway, it's leaching 8+up and 1+ down.

Yeah, my wife fell for that when we lived in MO -- AT&T had fiber to the neighborhood, but copper to the houses. My house didn't even have all 4 wires working and they had to dig up my yard. Installer had no clue what he was doing, and I had to make a cable for him (I did some side-jobs years ago and had ends and a crimper -- plus some jobs required null modem wiring which is difficult to find). I was hesitant to go with AT&T again, but this experience has been much better.

I'm 1 gig up, 1 gig down, in a town of 8,000 people with true fiber to the house. Gotta love Canada lol. There's large subsidies for running fiber and the open market approach means companies can make money laying fiber and selling bandwidth without even being a service provider. It's really driven installs to the home.

Unfortunately...we live where tech is run in just about every damn location and home. There are only 2 towers in a 10 mi radius plus Whidbey AFB so it bogs quickly. Nothing like getting jammed when they are on training runs.
Been trying to get my own neural network up and running without a rack, getting close.

Check your IMEI. Unless you root your wifi you are gonna have issues.
    Again, PHP. (wtaf)

What do you need a neural for?

Going to be good times ahead for it once AWS retires servers that had A100s in them within the next year or so once nVidia drops new commercial AI cards. Good chance you'll see used A100s on eBay for $1K around Christmas since they're useless to gamers and miners. I've been debating building a full server at that point and renting it out from home. I'd like to setup a Ubiquity full home router and server somewhere. The wife is gonna kill me lol.

I haven't yet, though the Wifi is dog shit because they didn't integrate the antennas into the body. Cu wires under Mg is just a fancy faraday cage.

Okay, PHP fine. Though that's is and isn't related to 5G. I'm sure you get what I mean from this comment.
So far I haven't had any conflict issues. All my neighbors are low tech folks running the stock all in one routers the providers use that are garbage. I have a Asus Rapture GT-AX11000 running modded firmware with a couple of other cheaper AX routers as APs covering the garage and bedrooms. I can outpower the cheap plastic around me anytime lol.

This is my one peeve with AT&T Fiber. You have to use their router, and their router software doesn't allow you to change the DNS servers. I was previously running pi-hole, and there's no good way to set things up with their router that lets me use it effectively. There are ways, they just don't work reliably and require things to come up in a specific order. On the bright side, the router has WiFi 6, so newer wireless devices get a fast connection and can actually utilize the bandwidth.

BTW for everyone here, if you see an Asus Wifi 6 Rapture (there's three versions now) for under $200 on sale just buy it. It's the first wifi router I've had with enough CPU grunt to make a power user happy. Definitely a great box and easy to mod the software if you want to run Tomato or something else. There's even a few guys running pfsense on them.

Regarding win11 and an internet connection, they will never require it across the board. There are devices that aren't legally allowed to have an internet connection. Just throwing that out there.
