Go from windows 10 to 11?

Sorry if this has been asked already... i looked but had no luck. I keep getting messages to make the switch. For those that went from 10 to 11 how's it going? Any issues... is it worth making the switch?

 

It's... eh? I don't really like the new UI, and my main computer (desktop i7-7700k) isn't on the upgrade list and I have no plans to upgrade it. Only computer I have that is eligible is the wife's Thinkpad X1 Tablet.

 

Assuming the machine can take Win 11. My machine couldn’t take Win 11 so I made the jump to a Mac.

 

I have been in the IT field for 25yrs, and even worked for Microsoft on two separate occasions. Take my suggestions with a grain of salt:


My opinion is I would wait. Many laptop manufacturers have not built-designed hardware that is fully compatible to run Windows 11. This means you may encounter the dreaded “Blue Screen of Death” more often. Also, because Win 11 is so new, Microsoft will push out a lot of Security Patches, Hotfixes and Updates. I try to wait 1yr before upgrading to the “newest” Microsoft product. It gives them time to properly patch all the bugs and provides a more stable environment.

Microsoft is fully supporting Win 10 until late 2025 so, there is no rush to move off it right now. Corporations will be very slow in adopting it as the standard.

worked on all my pc's so far, you do need win10 build files and win11 build files so you can swap the install.esd file, and you should tell it not to update on the initial screen. I usually unplug the network anyway.

 

My system isn't new, running an i5-8400 on a H370 chipset. But it has the TPM chip and supports the UEFI boot. I have had no issues with 11, but there's not a big difference between it and 10 in my opinion. There's nothing to rave about and nothing to hate.
