California (at least up north) has only two actual seasons:
    • Psuedo winter where we get maybe 5 or 6 rain storms between November - March
    • "Death Valley ain't got nuthin' on us!" heat from April through October. In 2021 it was already just shy of 100*F in April for a few days. The ONLY saving grace is that we don't have humidity. It almost never goes >20% RH in my area except during those very few rains

When I was in western Colorado last August, that's about where the prices were. They had an 85 octane for a bit less $$ but the 3.4 didn't like it one bit, so it was on to the 90 octane. The higher then expected fuel prices was killing the road trip plans and ultimately cut the trip short.

About 5-6 years ago when was living in Socal , 91 octane was almost six dollars a gallon . I almost sold the Camaro as it was to expensive to fill the tank every few days

In Oct-Nov I spent $2K for fuel on my 8k mile trip out to Washington and back. Which was almost twice what I had originally budgeted for the trip. I didn't cut the trip short, but I wish I could have made it the year before.

I live in the Sierra Nevada foothills, around 1,800' elevation. We will have 10 - 30+ days every year that get >100*F, and some years we have a fair number of days that get over 105*. It is very rare, but in the 30+ years I have been in this area, we have even had a handful of >110*F days. Our average annual rainfall (which does include the snowfall in the Sierras) is 15 - 18". Several of the last 10 years we have only had 8 - 10". And our rainy season is 98% contained to November - March. As of today, we have had 2 days when it rained since last Thanksgiving.... and that was a "100 year storm", we had extreme amounts of rain and snowfall for 3 days with that one, but that's one of the very heaviest storms in my 30+ years here.

Changed out the light bulbs. While at the store I seen they had 5qt jugs of Valvoline full synthetic for $22.99 an added bonus is Valvoline has a $10.00 rebate. So I got some. Truck is 1200 miles till oil change.

Gas here is between $3.38 and $ 3.58 a gallon.

We were out that way several years back in August and I hated it the hot winds reminded me of a hairdryer. That trip we went as fare as Vegas. But I’ve been as fare as Phoenix and Williams AZ since then in the right time of year March and again around October and now I’m open to moving out that way. And Sedona is probably one of my favorite places I’ve been.

Sedona is beautiful, and there are many small towns just south of Sedona that are same terrain/scenery, but whole lot le$$$$$$$$ to buy/live. I love the Flagstaff area, high elevation, nice cold winters,.....

On that first trip we had camped our way out 10 and as the trees shrunk to gone the more miserable I got. And then I saw flagstaff. You are correct that whole area is nice.

Many people that had not been to Arizona are likely not aware of how geographically diverse that state is. They know it's all desert, so they think of the southern part - dust, saguaro cactuses, rocks..... and of course lots of dry, hotness. But as you go north, you climb in elevation. Flagstaff is >7,000', and the south rim of the Grand Canyon is also close to the 7,000' mark. The northern end of the state can get some serious snow in winter, and pretty darn cold temps. Flagstaff is basically the high point on the Highway 40 corridor. Elevation starts declining both west and east of Flagstaff, and within 100 miles or less, you get out of the forests that you find in the Flagstaff area, and into the high desert (dust, rocks, not much else).
