Hey guys, I just installed a RC cold air intake on my truck and everything ran fine in the driveway. My truck sat at operating temperature when I reved the motor and when I was driving but as soon as I got to where I was going I put the truck in park and it started to climb. I shut the truck off and came back after about an hour and 30 minutes and had my dad follow me in his tundra and he said he saw my truck leaking some coolant in intervals but eventually it stopped. The truck never overheated but it definitely would get above operating temperature and my engine light was on along with my traction control. I looked in the engine bay and there definitely was coolant everywhere but when I turned the truck on and looked for leaks I couldn’t find any. My theory is that I messed with the cooling system pressure somehow when I installed the intake and that the pressure got so high it busted the upper hose and that’s why all the coolant didn’t leak out at once. What’s y’all thoughts and have y’all ever had this problem before I’m willing to hear y’all’s ideas and advice. Thanks guys!

Did you read the engine codes? An intake causing the engine to overheat makes no sense at all, unless you damaged something else during the installation. Was it driving normally when you drove it before it started getting hot? It sounds like your engine may have been low on coolant to begin with, that would cause your engine to be at normal temp while driving but get hotter after shutting off without the pump circulating fluid.

You removed the OEM Factory intake box, which is a cold air intake with an enclosed air filter, and replaced it with this Rough Country Intake which has an open-air filter under the hood. That Rough Country intake will allow heated under-hood air to go into the engine. Hot air reduces horsepower and increases coolant temps.

The upper radiator coolant hose failed?!

I always wonder how air from the wheel well area can be hotter than engine bay temps...
