Was it you @Wulf that I discussed power steering pumps with?

The FSM is so vague on the bleeding process but I usually jack the truck up before starting it and turn the wheel full lock 8-10 times. Then lower it and start it while turning full lock and checking fluid level. Put a cardone reman pump in my 99 and power steering now sort of works but it’s whining way worse than the 300K mile pump I rebuilt. Makes me wonder if the high pressure line needs to be replaced or something. Return lines and rack are brand new.

Meanwhile on my 04 I rebuilt the 140K mile pump (was leaking) and flushed the system with brand new Dex/Merc and it’s whining. Should’ve just left the brown original fluid lol. No air bubbles in either system. Fun times.

 

@Kwikvette Dutchmann in S Africa builds insanely beautiful air-cooled 911s (they did what's probably my favorite 912 build https://petrolicious.com/articles/the-dutchmann-guild-built-the-cleanest-porsche-912-ever-2-of-2 ) but they also do/have done R53s that I really dig.

The only reason I have that box is because it's the one the PO of my 2nd K03 (for the Taco) put it in lol. But your numbers looked familiar so I went to check the box. I just keep spare hoses in it now haha

Sounds right process wise

I turn lock to lock engine off like that, then let it idle for 30s without turning the wheel, then go lock to lock a bunch adding fluid as needed.

If it's whining and the pump isn't junk it's possible there is something else going on like a restriction or pinhole leak
