Detroit locker engagement issues

    Hey All, I’ve been running a Detroit locker for about 5 months.

    move had one in my jeep previously so i generally understand how the ride feels etc.

    lately I’m noticing a few things.
    1. Really bad cluncking like worse than normal,

    and 2. Rather then immediate engagement from both rear wheels. My driver wheel is getting a full half turn before the passenger side wheel engages.

    is this something that normally can happen with these lockers, is that amount of play normal? I had always thought engagement of both wheels should be right away…

    It had a few hundred miles on it.

    now I’ve put maybe 7-8k ish on it. That would really be a pain in the ass if it needed that already

    I've had quite a few vehicles with Detroit lockers and what you're describing doesn't sound like it's functioning properly . Is it an older version or the newer soft locker design . Did you do the Detroit locker function test

    It could be that the locker mechanism has developed excessive backlash from worn dog gear or springs

    How are you evaluating number 2? A Detroit is always locked unless the outside wheel in a turn is overrunning the inside wheel.
