Looked at a "22" TRD Sport yesterday. Disappointed that there is no handle on the "A" pillar on the drivers side. I use mine all the time getting in my "15" Sport. Any idea why they eliminated the handle?

I really like my KTJO handle I got for cheap on black friday last year. There's been some controversy here on that though. See above. Also, it can be difficult to put on but tips from watching a couple videos will help. Now that I actually have it on, I love it...

Until about the last year or so, the OEMs were only testing the left side. IIHS got upset and required the right side test also.

IIHS was testing and using passenger side info to determine its recommendations many years prior to last year. But yeah, the writing was on the wall when they started with the driver's-side grab handle. First they came for the driver's-side handle and I did not speak out because I was not a driver...and so forth.

My timeline might be off, but for the 3rd Gen, I think only the left side was tested. And also, the steering airbag is greatly different from the passenger side one.

Left side was definitely tested and seems to be the reason for the last-minute dismasted driver's side we know and phantom-grab today, but that woulda been like circa 2015. I think the passenger handle started being a testing focal point around 2016 or 2017, and so we'll see what the next gen does. A different design would have alleviated the problem without sloppily deleting the item. It's like someone saying "Essay #1 is a bad title for your first essay," and you simply deleting the title so there's nothing there. It's better but it's also worse.

My 3rd Gen came with one from the factory. It is also known to some as a steering wheel. Been using the steering wheel to help get into many a truck over my lifetime and it never hurt a thing.

Regardless of the reason Toyota decided to eliminate the driver side grab handle, I just cannot understand why this is such a big deal for so many here.

I had issues when I ordered the handle from KTJO but finally got a refund after several months. I’m glad I did too cause I came up with a better use for the A-pliiar.

They’re such great trucks we have to nitpick the hell out of the few things that aren’t awesome.
