    Hi, fellow Tacoma people.

I have an 07 Sport and just turned over 170,000 miles. A couple weeks ago I dropped a couple grand and replaced the suspension, belt, filters, brake pads, rotors, spark plugs, and battery.

The truck is driving almost like new but for some reason it is still hesitant to start. It seems to crank a few times before it fires up. Is this going to need a starter replacement or is there something else in the ignition I should look at first?

Also, what are some other items I should look at replacing with this type of mileage?

    Thanks,

What brand spark plugs did you use?

This is normal. My 2008 does it too. I looked into this same issue when I got mine. Most vehicles when you turn the key to the "on" position it primes the fuel lines by running the pump. These don't....so it takes a couple cranks to get the fuel primed to ignite.
I don't know why Toyota did it that way.

Yup. When people who weren't familiar with my truck hopped into my '05 they were always concerned it might not start lol. It got worse yet after installing the URD fuel pump.

The only reason I was questioning it is because it doesn't always hesitate. Now that I think about it, it does it when it sits all night, but not after I run into a store real quick. Probably because the fuel is already in the line and doesn't require as much priming. I'm not much of a mechanic but this does make sense, even to me. I appreciate it.

Mine does the same thing when it has been sitting overnight. Get's better if starting after warmed up.

I believe some of the issue with extended crank can be from a faulty check valve in the fuel pump.
The pump is supposed to hold line pressure when it shuts off. When a pump gets old it can loose the ability to hold line pressure. I myself, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Mine does that too. This doesn't add to the OP's question but I had a 1977 Camaro that you could literally just blip the key and that thing would fire up.
Keep in mind, it was a piece of crap and would disassemble itself while you were driving down the road, but it started fast.
