The best part about this unintended acceleration situation was that at the time, Toyotas motto was "keep moving forward"

I just can't see why.....

    ....WTF?

A few years ago, an elderly couple was at one of my local bluff top hotels along the coast here. There was just a wrought iron 4' high fence separating the parking lot from the cliff and ocean about 90' feet below. Supposedly their gas pedal was stuck and they blew through the fence and over the cliff and into the rocks and surf below. The little lady didn't survive the drop and impact. The man at the wheel did but was really jacked up. Word came later after he started his recovery, that the cause was a stuck throttle. Not sure if the mat was to blame as we didn't hear of the micro details but that was the speculation. The car was a Camry or an Avalon as I recall when I went and looked at it. It took a long time before they could coordinate its removal due to its location.

When they were doing the tsb, if you complained loud enough about it. They would replace the pedal. But they wouldn't voluntarily do it. Cutting it was their preference.

I never allowed them to touch mine.

Yeah, back in 2010 when I bought my truck new, they did the ECU reflash and cut my pedal too.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
My Avalon had the pedal cut done.. hated it so much I paid for a used uncut gas pedal. Pedals were cut purely because idiots stack mats then blamed Toyota. If you look at a lot of the new stuff coming from Toyota now, the pedals are floor mounted (not the tacos yet, not sure in the new tundras)

I remember when all the "sticking gas pedal" issues popped up; I was a technician at an independent shop. Just for shits & giggles, I experimented with trying to shut off the engine on toyota's with push button start/stop. I want to say it was like 4 seconds of holding the button before the engine finally shut off. That's a crazy amount of time when the car is accelerating (well - maybe not a prius) at freeway speeds. Especially for Joe public that doesn't even know how to check their odometer...

Yup, or Weathertechs. My 2010 came with nothing (used) so I got the Techs.

Nice to finally see a picture of the chopped pedal. Mine is the same and I've long wondered if it was chopped..I bought the truck in 2012 used so I wasn't sure.
