Hi all! I think I already know the answer from what I could find online but will ask just in case. Is there any type of an update I can run over the air or via a USB drive that will install Apple CarPlay into my existing 2017 Entune JBL unit? Thanks.

I don't believe there is a software solution to add in CarPlay. Some manufactures like Mazda sold retrofit kits for older model years that would update the physical usb port to allow for CarPlay, but Toyota has not provided a simple solution like that. There have been users here who successfully bought an OEM CarPlay unit that was from a later model Tacoma and fit it in theirs, I even saw one post recently of someone using the unit with CarPlay from a Sienna and put it in their Tacoma. I would recommend just buying an aftermarket unit with wireless CarPlay/Android Auto as myself and many other people have done. This thread on installing the Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX unit is great and is the one I would recommend if you're going that route. Other option is to snag a later year Toyota OEM unit with CarPlay and try to install that.

    No.

With that being said, if you want to add Carplay, I'd recommend a non-OEM solution. I have a 2021 with the JBL unit and the Carplay feature is junk due to hardware limitations.

I looked into this a bit and am still looking for a newer OEM HU, but you will need a special cable to connect the new HU to an older vehicle.
