    It's about sales volume just like new vehicles, a dealer parts dept's discount or cost from Toyota is based upon their purchase volume. The dealer I'm referring to is a VERY HIGH volume internet Toyota parts seller processing hundreds of internet transaction per day. One of the largest volume Toyota parts sellers in their US.

    An internet sale cost them VERY little as it's a totally automated process. The buyer goes to their on-line parts site, looks up their parts, orders and pays for it on line, dealer's order to Toyota is automatically placed and shipped to customer.
    For a walk-in / call-in order, a counter salesman has to look up the part, manually process the order, go get the part from their warehouse, or submit the order to Toyota and then there's another separate engagement when customer comes picks up the part. Then there's another associate/customer engagement when the customer goes to the cashier to pay.

    I don't like the fact that I have to pay more when I go to my Toyota dealer to purchase my parts, however owning a chain of auto parts stores for 16 years I certainty understand it from a business perspective.

    @JGoldman

    The third had an "online" parts guys on hand today so they will get my business today.

    My man, unless you wanna get spit-roasted over hot coals, DO NOT post a rant about bad customer service on this forum. It's full of people who enjoy getting bent over the barrel, well-supported by "owners" who love bending you over. Bad service is just bad service, and there's ZERO excuse for it. "...the internet parts guy was not available, so you can't get your part today" is pathetic and you did right by taking your business to the place that actually wanted your money. All I can see is you standing there at the counter, the bed mat neatly rolled up in plain view, and two idiots looking at each other, a confused look on both their faces with a conversation that goes something like this:

    "...bruh, we can't give him the mat...Chewy, the online guy, is not here today, he's gotta wait till Monday."

    "Dang daaawg, the part is RIGHT THERE - we can just hand it to him and be done."

    "Can't do it bruh - it's an online sale."

    SO you just cancel the online sale, and say, ok, I'll just buy it over the counter then. Can you just hand it to me?

    "Oh, dang dawg - it's gonna cost you more money that way, because you paid for it here instead of online."

    Those places just don't deserve your money - take your business elsewhere. If you're a business owner, and you can afford your employees making your customers walk out without a sale, I am genuinely happy for you - I am. If you want a loyal customer, and can't afford to have them walk out the door to give their money to someone else... well... do better.

    I'd take the 2020 TRD OR to the Honda dealer and trade in for a Ridgeline.

    Sounds like living in Lancaster sucks... There's no shortage of 24hr plumbers here. You can always get what you want if your wallet can indulge you. Now, if you wanna talk about water heaters giving up the ghost when you're out of cell phone range, winter camping, THAT sucks. LOL.

    You do realize that many places, including dealerships, have a parent company/owner/region, right?
    Often times the money ends up in the same place.
    OP was just slightly inconvenienced and gave someone a good laugh with that ridiculous email, including TW.

    But he's had FOUR Toyota's!! I've had over 20 and I wouldn't be upset by this. But I have also worked in various different automotive jobs including at dealers over the last 30 years too. I have friends who work in internet parts departments and yes they do not deal with walk-in customers. And yes the pricing is different. I ordered my OE bed mat on Amazon. Showed up in 2 days. No fuss.

    Agreed. But before OP disappears, he needs to clarify something. He told us to go fuck ourselves. Do we process that online for a discount, or just go straight to counter sales? This is important.

    Yeah- you're right. There are more than a few of those around here, independent dealerships that are part of the ____ Auto Group. So yes, could be putting money in their pocket anyway. Eventually though, the captains of industry will ask why one dealership's parts department is doing so poorly over the other's. It's pretty common with gas stations too. One guy, or group will own multiple stations - some stick to a chain, some diversify.

    Need is relative - especially when it comes to individual choices. He "needed" the part that day because it was one of however many number of things he had to do on his one day off a week (per one of his posts). Someone else telling me what I "need" quickly ends up in a go fuck yourself situation. That whole "You don't need _____" is complete bull shit. People who tell you that you don't need a 20 round magazine will defend their need to have a car that's capable of going 100 mph. If that's true, well, only race car drivers on race tracks need that, so governors on everything else. Right? Some people will tell you that you don't have a need for a big house, or a boat, or luxury car, yet they somehow need to have a smoke or a drink. Really?

    He didn't get the service he wanted, took his money elsewhere, and let us and the dealership know why. It's pretty low-rent for people to roast the guy over it.

    I’m just gonna quote this;
    Most companies will also gladly lose customers who complain/bitch/moan/are belligerent because ‘the captains of industry’ know that those kinds of people aren’t worth the trouble. They are time vampires. Let them move on. Especially on small market items like bed mats.
    If THIS is how you’re handling a small inconvenience, you can stay the hell away from my company, I do not want your business.

    Be nice to the people around you, and to the people serving you is the ultimate point here. As mentioned by a few people in this thread already, handling things calmly and rationally will get you much further than writing angry comedy emails.

    It's just that the email was very entitled, Karen, millennial like tone to it. Of course he didn't deserve the harsh words and I suspect he doesn't know the forum very well.

    Comedy. My buddy prints out those kinds of emails and will hang them up somewhere in their office under an ‘email of the week’ banner. The best parts of all the crying will be highlighted.
    People just need to stop and think, maybe sit on what they wrote for 12-24hrs, before hitting that ever tempting send button.

    In OPs case, he hit send + posted it to TW and probably elsewhere, which only makes it even more funny.

    I can see songwriters write songs with emotion but in email's it just doesn't work.

    Same goes for scummy businesses who over charge. What’s your business? I want to ensure I never give you a fucking cent.

    This goes 2 ways. How a business handles a small thing will show you how they’ll handle so,we thing larger. They deserve to be on welfare, like you.
