I am looking at buying this shell for my 2015 DCSB taco. The seller says that he isn't sure if it is for a tacoma, because he tried to fit it on his parents 3rd gen and it didn't fit right. I know that their are some differences between the beds, but I thought they were the same width?

Would anyone be able to ID if this will fit my 2nd gen 5ft bed? My Taco is in the shop from an accident on Christmas Eve, but I should be getting her back in a week or so. I would go test fit, but the seller is a full tank of gas round-trip away, and I don't want to spend that unless I know it is worth it. Thanks in advance.

PS: The seller said that it is 65 inches wide, and since I don't have my truck, I can't measure mine.

Remote start w/ vehicle control and locator, Prinsu rack w/ Cali Raised Light Bar and 360 LED lights, LED Bedlights, Tailgate lock, 3" Lift, Wheels and Tires, Raptor Lights, LED headlights and fog lights, Blacked out LED taillights, Front windshield eyebrow tint, Rough country bed molle, 8-gang switch to control LEDS, Dominator D6 running boards/side steps, Blacked out sequential mirror turn signals
2nd and 3rd gen beds are different. Ask the seller if there is a serial number plate on the inside of the topper they can send you a picture of. You can look up what truck it was originally made for.

I'll look into it, thank you. Do you know where I would look it up, or would I have to contact SnugTop directly? Thanks.

I found a list online when I was buying mine. I'll see if I can find it.

From looking at pictures online, I am pretty sure it's a SnugTop Rebel, but I may be wrong.

Sorry the list I was talking about is for ARE toppers. That is definitely a snugtop in the picture. Try getting the serial number and contact snugtop. I would be confident that since its pictures on a 2nd gen taco that it would fit your 2nd gen.

Edit: I'm not sure if it's the pictures or not but zoomed in and it does look a little too wide on the sides by the cab. It's hard to tell in pictures tho.

It's on his 1st gen right now. The inside bed measurements should be the same, but 2nd gen bedsides are wider, so it appears as though it may fit. I will ask him about a serial number tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Update: Serial number checks out, it was made for a 2012 5ft bed Tacoma.

It's not carpeted inside though, which is the only drawback. Is there a way to diy that?

I am also looking at a roof rack for it, possibly Thule or Yakima bars. Does anyone have any insight into how hard it would be to do that stuff on my own, or how expensive it would be to take it somewhere?

I am just a college kid trying to get the most bang for my buck. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend getting a quote from a dealer on the roof rails and how much for installing the roof rails. Im not sure if you can find them for sale outside of a topper dealer. Snugtop only sells parts to topper dealers but those might be a universal type part. Dealers might only charge you $40-$60 more for the install which in my case is worth paying to take away the hassle and stress.
For the carpet, also get a quote from a dealer. Then quote out the carpet and supplies you would need to do that yourself. See how much the difference is and make a decision.
I fully believe you can do both of these yourself. As far as cost efficient, if you dont have all the tools, often times DIY can be more expensive then paying someone. On the other hand you will learn a lot from doing things yourself. Yes you will make some mistakes and have to pay more to fix them but at least you learned and get the gratification from doing it yourself.
Anyways start with getting quotes from dealers and quoting out the supplies you would need to do it yourself. Then you can make an educated decision on which way to go. If you do decide to DIY, this forum is full of helpful people that can answer any questions you have.

Thank you for your advice. I'm still about 2 weeks out from getting my truck back from the shop (they keep pushing the date back). If the guy still has it for sale I'm gonna grab it, if not I'll just go top less for a while. Once I get it I'll see what my options are. Thanks again for the help.
