Anybody have an idea what caused grease to get all over around this zerk?

Is this normal perhaps with temp fluctuation as we come out of winter? Is something broken?
    Thanks in advance.

As you might be aware, normally when you pump grease into the zerk fitting, the old grease expells at the seals at the base of the bearing caps. It's possible the seals have gone bad.

    1. Pump fresh grease into the zerk until you see fresh grease being expelled from the seals.
    2. Wipe away all the excess grease and wash the outside of the U-joint clean with a degreaser that doesn't attack rubber.
    3. Drive the ATV for a while. As the U-joint churns some additional grease will be expelled.
    4. Repeat step 2.
    5. Monitor the U-joint. If you see more grease expelled, replace the U-joint.

    Thank you!

Obviously it’s important to take care of but is since you say ride and monitor is it ok to ride it a bit until spring and of course if it’s leaking grease, stop and get the u joint replaced?

It's OK to ride, but you need to pump fresh grease into the zerk so the joint doesn't run dry.

Having a similar problem. Kind of.

My Lock n Roll trailer hitch has flush-type grease fittings. I'm trying to grease them using a needle-type dispenser tip on my grease gun but the fitting on the hitch does not seem to be taking the grease. It acts like the little spring and ball valve won't recess when I put the needle into it.

I'm tempted to get a small punch and hammer and tap on the fitting to see if I can loosen it up.

Is that a safe thing to try? Any other thoughts?

i wonder if your issue is with the zerk itself, I think the seals on my u joint at totally blown. Maybe just replace your zeros I have read that dirt can block them up
