I was exploring the trails in the Shawnee National Forest, aaaand my front end slid right into a tree trunk while backing up out of an impassable (for me, anyway) super muddy spot.

I think only the bumper got ripped off. I'm heading home towards Chicago right now. The trip is over.

    Edit: sorry. Forgot the picture
Anyone in Illinois have an extra stock bumper for sale? I'd be willing to pick it up on my way home today.

It looks like only the bumper got torn off. Only plastic brackets and the bumper itself are broken. It's might be wishful thinking, though. I'll have to check out out fully once I get home.

If you keep going out in that slick stuff, you might want to consider a steel bumper. Maybe a more aggressive tire tread pattern too.

Good to see you actually take it there. Most folks just mod the crap outta them and then just drive to work.

If you're going to be out and about an potentially running into situations even like that... may want to think about a steel bumper replacement instead?

Lucky. Now you have an excuse to get an aftermarket bumper!

There's some wicked trails in this place (Shawnee NF). It doesn't look like they maintain anything, and/or most trails also serve as runoff tracks(?) or something, because they're all half eroded down a foot deep, or so, in a snaking water stream that follows the trails and they get worse, and worse, until they're absolutely impassable unless you have a bulldozer or something.

Not enough zip ties, unfortunately. I got some paracord, though.

Wow that sucks. I'm in IL Chicagoland and just cut my bumper up to install the BA slimline, but using the parts you need on my truck...If you would have hit going forward I still have the aluminum bars.

I've seen some on Amazon for relatively cheap though...

Good thing you didn't set off the airbag. Might as well look at the bumpers at ExtremeTerrain.com unless you turn in to insurance. I second the A/T tires if you are going mudding.

I'm gonna second 9th up there. I much prefer seeing somebody using a stock truck hard rather than doing a 6" lift, putting 22" wheels with mud terrain tires, bumpers, sliders, lights to run a small city...only to polish it on weekends. With that being said, a slightly more aggressive tire would probably a very solid investment if you like the slick stuff.
Let us know how it turns out, hope it's only the plastic bits...but either way, great time for a bumper upgrade!

Great excuse to bump up to a steel bumper and upgrade those tires

That looks like the way to go. Definitely cheaper than my deductible.

Yep, probably cheaper than the gas to get down there and back. It says they ship it rolled up whatever that means
Honestly the damage while it looks awful might not be too bad with non factory parts and some elbow grease. I'd guess you could even spray paint it. Insurance might not cover it unless on an actual road depending on the policy, plus you'd just end up paying for it in increased insurance rates (bastards lol). It's been a long time since I have been down to S. IL beautiful area, sorry to see the trip spoiled.

Let me know when your going again, I'll park my truck and ride with you :D
