Biggest tire on Gen 2 with leveling kit - 17in rims

Just got my son a 2010 Tacoma. It has a leveling kit on the front and 17in tires (265/65/17). He wants bigger tires but I don't want to lift it any or any new suspension. Can we go with larger tires? Maybe 285/70/17? Or would that even make a difference?

Sorry to ruin your day. I saw some posts but they all go down rabbit holes. I'm just looking for a straight answer.

 

Unless you plan on doing some cutting 265’s as big as you’re going to get on that vehicle.

I have a 3 inch icon lift, I put my buddies 285’s on just to try and they rubbed, and I would have to cut the back part of my fender to make them fit properly
FYI he has a 6” lift that’s why he runs them in the winter

 

Generally, 265/70-17 (31.6" diameter) is the largest most can go without starting to interfere. Your current 265/65-17 = 30.6" diameter

I have 265/70-17 on mine and had to remove the mud flaps. I still get an occasional rub on the back of the fender when turning and one front tire is getting stuffed up into the wheel well.

 

Do you want the widest or the tallest? I have 255/75/17s and didnt rub stock, or now basically leveled via 5100s

 

Taller with maybe some width. But height is more what I'm looking for.

 

I ran 285s with a leveling kit and wheel spacers before my current set up. I trimmed the fender and hammered the pinch weld and it would only rub in reverse at full lock. The portion of the fender you have to cut is where the mud flap bolts up so you will lose your front mud flaps by upgrading the tire size.

I had a 285 put on my full size spare so I could resolve the clearance issue in my driveway before putting all 4 tires on -- otherwise you'll be stuck at the tire shop with tires that rub anytime you try to turn the truck.
