Trying to mount up some wheels, at Discount and they can only get 5 turns on the conical lugs. They don’t recommend that low and want to see minimum 7 turns on the stud. Thoughts?

Look into the ET lug M12x1.5 if your aftermarket wheels can accept the extended thread option. ET lug will give you at least 7 or more turns. Don’t forget about the spare spline key

I tried using your lugs, and the cone does not fit through the wheel opening. If the lugs are torqued to spec, does it matter if you only get 5 turns instead of 7?

I realize that’s an option, but why would that be necessary. Why on earth would a well known company produce wheels with the caveat that you have to replace studs? That’s ludicrous….I just verified that Tire Racks recommendation for 12x1.5 is 6.5 turns.

From a company perspective, we always recommend you to choose the safest route for liability purposes.

What wheels are in question? I would never trust 5 turns from a lug nut.

Summit Dakars. They sell open ended lugs that are a bit thinner and should work. I just got off the phone with one of their reps.

You will have to ask Summit that question. All of our current wheels all accept ET style lug nuts.

Discount Tire should have lugs that will work, in their shop, or can order you some.

it’s a Summit wheel issue. They run narrow, so several conicals don’t fit through like scs/gorilla etc
