Hello all. Nice to see folks using such a simple setup of shocks and springs to get lift. And being shocks the billies are cheep. The 5100 and 885 combo seems to be getting people 1.5" of lift or so, but I was hoping for 2.5"

Would pre loading the shocks a little really effect ride if I tried to notch them up? Or should I consider other springs. Whats good is I have a reg cab 4 banger and should get a little more lift than the other folks with that setup as their rigs are heavier, maybe?

I was just going to get a 5mm driver side spacer hand it over to the shop (cant work now).

I have a reg cab with 884's and 5100's. Have about 1.25" with a steel bumper and winch. 885's should get you closer to 2-2.5".

Preloading the shocks would absolutely affect the ride in a negative way.

I've broken the rules for a customer's truck and ran ome coils on the 2nd notch of a 5100. I think 1 notch up is ok, as long as you still have some droop. In other words not at the very upper limit of shock travel at ride height. If you jack the truck up from frame and the wheels immediately come off the ground, then the ride will be terrible. If you jack up from frame and it takes a while before the front tires come off the ground, you should be ok.

Thanks guys. Im torn between the 885's (884 have heaver spring rate oddly enough makes sense with winch and bumper) and 887's as they have the same spring rate but the 887's would give me closer to 3" lift which I have now (spacers) and would love but dont want to mess up my suspension at anything over 2.5". Im trying to thread the needle of not needing to do anything but shocks and springs. I'd love to hear from any reg cab owners too with 887 OME coils and what lift they get. Having to set shocks to 0 means Iv got to get springs right first time.

I have 885 coils but added a 1/2” top hat spacer and got 3.25”. Sometimes I’m not sure why I didn’t just go 887’s but I’m happy with it.

    5100/885 with Headstrong AAL

Here is my truck with the 885/5100 combo. I also got the headstrong replacement leaf pack in the rear. If you go on headstrong offroad's website they offer a lot of information about 88x/5100 kits as far as realistic height expectations. They have a ton of different options as well on there for other suspension set ups. Also, I have a prerunner so it sits a tad higher than a 4wd model would. I dont have exact measurements but id guess it's at least 2.5" taller.

I used this guide when picking springs, I believe their measurements are about 1/4 - 1/2" of lift off after settling as everything but 886's settle about that much. these numbers are pre-settle from what I have gathered and from the 5100/887 I installed on my truck.

Throw out this question in one of the reg cab threads. I know some have 887's but can't recall who.

There seems like such a difference between those two 885 setups, they both look dope. I was going to go with the bilsteins and iebachs then, nitro with ome. Theres a reg cab sub forum? and N/A for reg cab..
