I covered the roof with a blanket, then slide the rack up from the bed. That was for the reinstall. Orginally I built it in place leaving everything loose so I could square it up a again had a blanket on the roof

So a million posts ago.. I had questions about flexibility in the rack and was told that flex was normal ( I mean aluminum is a flexible metal) I reached out to @upTOPoverland because the rack feet were actually touching my roof. The same day they got it resolved for me! I will forever and always be an Uptop overland customer! 20220304_181407.jpg 20220304_181429.jpg

Rack installed! I used microfiber cloths taped to the feet and fairing bottom so I could skimmy it into position. Then I lifted each foot and stuffed in perhaps way too much silicone before jamming the spacers in. The whole install was way less painful than I was expecting (largely because the rules of physics seem to collapse into disarray whenever I do anything to the truck) and quite enjoyable. Tomorrow I think I can finally wire the lights and install the RFRM I've had sitting on my table for a few weeks.

As expected, this is one sexy rack.

Morning fellas, have a quick question. After a couple hours reading through the thread to figure out if I want to buy a Bravo cab rack, I think I read something somewhere that there may be an older and newer version? Can anyone tell me what to look for to differentiate between an older Bravo rack and a newer (if there actually are old/new versions)? Any thing in particular to check for when buying a used rack if I find one locally?

Another question; has anyone wired up pod/scene lights that could double as emergency/hazard type of function? I know some cheaper bluetooth RGB rock lights might would have a "strobe" type of function from within its app. Would that be the easiest budget option? If that sounds off the table, what would it take to make something like the BD lights ALSO have the option to strobe?

Edit: bonus points if wired into the bed light switch in the cab

Not sure on those differences on the Bravo, I went Alpha route. I could tell you the difference in those if anything.
I would not suggest making the BD lights strobe. I think someone did that to their lights and it ended up burning them out at some point. I would leave the pod/scene lights as is. You can wire them to the bed light in the cab however you want, just throw a relay in there and that should take care of it. As for the strobe, I would go with a standalone item that is meant for strobe function.

Thanks for the reply! Not sure if my thought process is correct or not, but assuming I score a used bravo rack, I think I can do what I'm hoping at a budget if I purchase these pod housings:
    https://delatorre-designs.square.site/product/uptop-light-pod-set/7?cs=true&cst=custom

    paired with these lights:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XXSF89W

This would give the option for scene changing/strobe/color change/etc through the app (if needed; obviously will use responsibly). Being a cheaper light, I imagine output would be decent enough to be seen in a hazard situation, but not so bright to be blinding, and probably decent enough for the occasional camp lighting. I really like the idea of wiring into the bed light as I truly never use it with a camper shell, but also gives an extra option of having flood lighting when opening/unlocking doors should I ever want that. That being said, I'm not super wiring savvy, do you have any idea what relay I'd need to make this work?

That’s the set up I went with. The wiring is a bit bulky, but you can hide it under the fairing neatly. I change mine to yellow, red, and pulsing red and green for x mas. I also run them in the fog for added visibility. Someone here made me an adapter for the bed lights. Kinda nice. Flip the switch and the lights Tay on for 20 minutes. Otherwise they come on when you unlock and open your doors.

What wires did you tap to make the lights activate in those conditions? Do you know what angle your lights are at thanks to the adapters? I made my own and ended up at 35 degrees which is probably too much.

@kmorgan3 made me a t tap. So basically you just unplug the bed light switch connector, his custom tap fits right in. Then plug everything together. Couldn’t be simpler. I had him supply a relay as well even though the vintage is pretty low.

Only hard part was getting the wires up to the roof. I think I ordered 14 gauge wire at first but it was too thick so went with 16 finally I believe. It’s way over kill for these lights.

As for the lights angle I’m guessing it’s like 15-20 degrees. Just enough. You can email del torre designs or message him on Instagram and he can let you know. He was super helpful and can answer any questions. Fit and finish looks great imo. And if the lights die for some reason. It’s only like $65 for a new set

Thanks for the info. Do your lights all feed into a controller? I've also got a set of 4 lights from them and they feed into one. Instructions say not to mount in the engine bay and I don't know if it's waterproof. I think I'm actually gonna route the wires down the rear of the cab and into the bed as I'm building an aux fuse panel for it. Downside of course is that it'll be more work to tap into circuits towards the front.

I'm looking at doing a Bravo rack on my Taco. Will be installing a 40 inch light bar with the Universal 40 inch fairing. For anyone that has done this how did you mount the light bar to the rack.

Not many options out there for mounting brackets for this.

May be a dumb question here, but I didn't see anything listed in the install instructions. Is there any harm in driving my truck at highway speeds immediately after install? Obviously it aint going nowhere because its bolted down, but would there be any danger in the silicone not being fully cured as far as water leaks are concerned? I feel like I'm overthinking it :anonymous:

Yeah I figured; I found a used one locally and just grabbed it a little bit ago. Made about a 60 mile trip with it immediately afterwards and knew I was overthinking it lol. Very happy to officially join this thread!

I mounted mine under the fairing. The leads to each light are only so long so it basically needs to be mounted in the roof. I ran some silicone sealant around mine and just used massive zip ties. I contemplated mounting a box under one of the rails, but this seems to work. Had about 3 massive rain storms and everything still works fine.
