What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Picked up a DRT Fabrication hitch skid. A HC bumper is quite a ways out so this should tide me over until then.

 

So you constantly drive in water that is over your wheels? How is the elephant trunk helping when the opening is facing forward taking in rain and dust as your driving upstream or down or thru the desert?

 

I came across some extra 1/2” cable management tubing I had laying around and cut a few pieces and blacked out the headrest “pipes” actually turned out pretty cool I think I’ll keep it.

 

Raising an intake helps avoid dust that’s coming off the rear wheels of vehicles in front of you

And yes, my work consistently has me on back trails.

So shouldn't the elephant trunk opening be facing towards the rear to avoid dust from vehicles in front?

And if that was my work I would be using their vehicle.

 

Thanks for posting these. I got mine today and they are just what I was looking for. Great addition to the truck bed! I may modify a couple with a slit on the tailgate side so I can just slide the cargo net basket into the bracket and eliminate the carabiner.

 

Considering I work for a non profit, I don’t mind using my own vehicle.

 

I never said it has no function. I'm just curious why you would face it forward towards all that supposed dust.

 

I get that he's taking in more dust and rain by facing it forward.

I cooked lunch on the truck at work. Usually do a few times a week.

 

Wish it was warm enough to do so here haha.

 

A snorkel being higher up means it picks up less dust than a stock airbox that is at engine bay level.

A backwards facing scoop also doesn't get the benefit of having ram air either and will be less efficient. A backwards facing scoop has to pull in air that is going by making it less efficient and also making the engine having to work harder to get air.

 

Also the stock intake pulls a lot of its air from near the wheel well which is brutal in dust (I was going thru air filters every 6-7k km) and can actually lead to hydro locking if you hit a shallow puddle a little too fast and have water blow into it. Rare, but does happen.

 

Small little mod, more of an art project if you will. Painted my factory front strap hook red.

 

So you'll be ramming dust in there cuz a 2 to 3 foot height increase is not gonna get you out of that dust zone.
Seems like a waste of $400-$600 to me.....but hey "to each his own"

 

I planned on doing that this weekend along with the drivers eye loop. Color match looks spot on…what product did you use (brand/color) and did you prime the hook before?
