When you say they aren't wearing evenly... how so? Middle wearing out first? Outsides wearing first? Fronts or rears wearing faster? Depending on your situation and what your wear is like, 10k may be too long of an interval.

Mine are different tires (Geolandar MT's) but after doing the chalk test I realized 40+ PSI was gonna wear the middle out prematurely. Chalk test had me drop pressures down to 36F/32R.

Mine are actually chipping and just ... I've done the chalk test and tried different psi and 40 is the best but I might just have a bad batch I got them in 2019

Just installed some 235/80r17 Yokohama Geolandar G003 tires. Discount Tire’s EBay store had them on super sale last week, only $740 shipped for all 4:

I ran the same size KO2s on a 2nd gen Tacoma and liked them. I run dedicated snow tires in the winter so some more aggressive tires in the summertime will be possible now. They mounted up just fine on 4Runner wheels, and they sit 15mm further out than the stock taco wheels- helps keep them from looking too sunken in

After running a set of ST Maxx for several years (255/75/17 load range C) on my first gen and being very happy with their performance finally decided to pull the trigger on another set (255/85/16 load range E) on my third gen. Much great info and insight on this thread helped make the final decision…thanks to all that contribute regularly!

Hope you have better tire life than I did on the exact same setup. I ended up going back to BFG TA K02s in a 235/85R16 size and love them so far.

Hoping the same; I have seen several here with the same complaint and am concerned they may have changed their compound over the years. My experience has not been the same. My first set were used and gifted to me by a friend in 2015 to try the size. I ran them for just shy of 2 yrs and then bought a new set in Sep 2017 at 205K mi (255/75/17) and they are still on the truck at 293K. They began getting louder at about 60 - 70K and I would have replaced them at about 80K, but it’s has been retired to a farm truck role and no longer a daily driver. Bottom line is I did rotate every 5K, never flatted, and have been very happy with their performance. Now these are a larger size and higher load rating…hoping they fare as well as the older tire. The funny thing is that I was running BFGs before switching to the Coopers. Nothing better for fireside chats than tire talk.

So for people with 255/85 r16's or have seen a lot what are the widest looking? I feel like actual specs/dimensions don't account for the look of the tread. I feel like the two widest looking are the Cooper Maxx the Yokohama Geos....

My planned build is to put some 255's on my TRD pro 16 inch rims and install a westcott lift + AAL in the rear. I don't want to bother with 285/75s due to possible rubbing and also more loss of mpg/power...plus I just think 285s look a little too chunky for our trucks.

As for use, I'd like to do some trails this summer maybe cape code shoreline/besches. Nothing major, maybe work my way up over the next few years. Doing it mostly for looks now with payoff later as they should end up more capable tires in the long run vs stock.

IMO the Yokohama M/T's look skinnier than others, not wider. A TON of it has to do with wheel width, wheel offset, wheel design and the way it looks due to the specific photo you see. I swear mine look narrower to me, in person, on my truck than in most of the photos in this thread.

Not the same year as your truck, but these are 255/85/16 Yokohama Geolander MT's. I've aired these, and my last pair of 255/85's (BFG KM2's) to about 7psi, no issues. BFG's were mounted on stock steelies, and the Geolanders are mounted on 3rd Gen 4Runner wheels. 0FCAA458-2423-4CD8-A54D-BA1015C18403_1_201_a.jpg

Toyos are generally oversized. My M55 don’t look too skinny. Wheel offset helps with the stance too which makes them look wider.

considering the 255/80/17 on my tacoma with stock rims, and with eventually getting a (17x8/8.5)zero offset wheel. With standard suspension, and a leer shell, would i need to do any trimming with either wheel? thanks

    Stock-ish
Under full flex, they most likely compress to the same height as the stock bump stops. My wheelers superbumps (like 3x the size of the stock ones) actually gained me uptravel since I used to compress them so much that they would fold over.
