Anyone out there convert their HoodScoop into a functional element? Have directed incoming scooped air into the intake system? If so..... can you share the process that you took to get this accomplished?

    thanks....

There are threads where people opened it up to vent the engine (actually raised engine temp), and if I remember one or two tied it to the air box (and got worse flow.) It's difficult to tie because the flow through the air box travels upward, so you're complicating the path with a lot of ductwork.

The best method I've seen to make the scoop functional is this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/light-bar-in-hood-scoop.545621/

Really! Higher temps under the hood? Induction is all about pressure. The more the merrier!

i was thinking about getting the sport over the offroad at first just cause i do like the look of the scoop. then i did some research and fairly quickly found out that is 100% fashion over function. in fact it even blocks a small part of your view from in the cab. its not much to even worry about but still it does.

Travace has correctly described the hood with the scoop and its draw backs. That said it dose have a potential to provide a benefit if one is creative and determined!

It's already functional. The panty dropping factor is simply amazing and it adds 50 hp just being there.

Once you make the scewp functional, you will need to take the next steps to balance the truck...

I have to admit, that my first car out of high school was a Subaru Impreza with a hood scoop. The setup was different than the tacoma, so I was able to open the hood scoop and use it. It didn't do much but made the engine bay dirtier with no drastic changes in performance. Not worth it for the Tacoma hood in my opinion.

Nope, but it will still be a pretty cover for your blown motor!

I have the scoop and at first I wanted to swap it for a plain hood because of the visibility issues. But I came to realize that it does have a function -- the scoop hardware makes the hood heavier, stiffer, and less prone to the fluttering and vibration that tends to plague the non-scooped hoods.

This definitely is a Fridayish topic. But what about:

"What are the largest tires that will fit?"
"Why are my MPG's so bad?"
"Will raptor lights give me big D energy?"
