The ICON 1/2" drive 50-250 ft-lb click type is great quality and extremely accurate. Plus you can't beat $110 for a professional grade feeling tool.

    Thanks for the input guys.
    I went with the Icon.
If I like it, I may pick up the 3/8” next.

But so far my Kobalt has been doing fine. So I’ll probably stick with it for awhile.

    Thanks again guys:thumbsup:

I was going through my collection of manuals figuring out what ones to keep or throw away.
I found this bit interesting in the instructions

I checked and every wrench they sell has the same instructions.
Even the split beam they sell has the same advice. Weird?
Can’t say I’ve ever “exercised” a torque wrench.

BTW, in the time since I started this thread I also bout the Quinn digital in 3/8”
It seem pretty accurate. I just can’t get used to not feeling or hearing the click.
And to be honest, I’ve kind of went back to “feel” on No critical component.

I second the Tekton. I have had it for a few years now and it still works great.

I've never exercised my torque wrenches like that, might have some meatier forearms if I followed that procedure every time Lol.

I've had great luck with my Kobalt 1/2" & Gearwrench 3/8" !! And I know what you mean about the digital ones - if you're in an awkward position and can't read the screen you can over-torque even though they vibrate and audible beep.

Never heard of that either. I was always told they need to be stored at their lowest setting to avoid throwing off the calibration of the internal spring over time. But never heard anything about exercising before use haha

Stay away from the budget click-type wrench at AutoZone; I bought one prior to rebuilding Olds 350, heads required 90lb-ft of TQ. Blew head gasket a month later, come to find the brand-new wrench clicked 20 ft-lbs EARLY!!:annoyed:
