So..99 Taco 330k miles. I have a 90 mile round trip daily..I love this little truck but my grandad passed and left me his 97 silverado 2wd...don't need two trucks...been thinking about getting something better suited for the highway..

I always wanted a mustang...could sell the taco and pay cash for this...clean 01 gt...no mods besides paint, cobra front end and lowered...with 135k miles. I also work at a ford dealer so it fits more lol.

Between that Taco and the mustang I'd get the mustang.

Good on you for keeping your Gpaw's truck!

But keep in mind the Taco is probably going to be the most fuel efficient by far of the three.

My taco gets about 18mpg..mixed. I drive 90 miles round trip speed limitsfrom 55mph to 70mph..

The mustang has a 4.6 and has 3.27 gears

The taco is my only 4wd...and i don't concern myself with rock chips or road rash like I think I would with the stang...neither can fit a car seat.

You CAN fit a car seat in the 'Stang. Source: I had a 2002.

    AV3 003.jpg

Why the 3.27 gears, is it an automatic? My 2005 (still have it) came stock with 3.55 gears. After 2006 they made that optional upcharge, and standard was 3.31 gears. (LAME)

The 4.6 is a bulletproof engine - the only issue you'd have to deal with would be the timing chain tensioner - they are pressurized by the oil pump and when they get old they tend to drain out the pressure, thereby losing tension on the chains. Loved my 2002 though, it was a great car - I sold it to get the 2005 when they first came out since I wanted the retro look.

What did you end up doing?

Well I have the Tacoma up for sale for so far no bites....I may have it priced high at 6k...but the way there selling around here that's what i'll have to have.

If it sells great, if it don't...great.

I like dd the taco...don't care to much about highway rash and just the other day when we had tornadoes and strong storms it got me home safely vs I would have had to make more detours in the car.

I'd question why the mustang was painted. Try to find signs of body work or repairs. Most people don't paint a car complete, it's expensive to do correctly.

Oh man, you need to tell the person that owns that garage, they put siding in wrong. It should be on the exterior of the house, not inside.

A V8/manual trans Mustang is an absolute blast to drive.

The instant torque is so satisfying that you don't really need to go all out with it to enjoy it.

Honestly, the 99-04 Mustang GT is a low 14/high 13 second car. A V6 Camry can get close to those times. But the V6 Camry acceleration experience is boring compared to the Mustang.

Good luck with your decision, but if you don't need a truck, I'd lean Mustang.

The taco has another 100k. The mustang will take a shit before the taco does. Keep it.

    I drive a Miata.
I would get a car. Not sure I would get a bubble-butt-generation mustang.

I had a 1998 5 speed manual and admittedly that car was fun to drive. But something about the fabric made it dirty in a hurry, little trim pieces needed constant refastening, and it was one of the worst hydroplaners I've ever owned. Doesnt matter what tires I slapped on that little car; if the weather so much as threatened light mist, prepare for hovercraft mode.

There are more fun cars out there. Go test a used Miata or 86.

So I have decided to keep the taco..

Sure the mustang would be more fun on the highway but..
I would always wanna keep it clean since the paint is nice
Gas mileage might be a little better but doubt it.

The taco hasn't let me down yet, I have made it as mechanically sound as possible.
I don't have to worry about weather or keeping it as clean.
    18.5mpg aint bad

Getting hard to find a 5-speed 4wd dependable truck for less than 5k

Good call. And this is coming from a Mustang owner/enthusiast.
