    HELLO,
trying to put trans into reverse on my 08 6 spd. hard to do, wont take. have to keep trying as i muscle shifter into it.
    all forward gears are fine.
happened after emergency downshift while ran off road by a flatbed, trying to get 1st gear in a real big hurry as plowing into snow to try to get her to pull out.
reason why reverse should NOT be next to 1st gear. in dire need, you can be jamming into reverse as you watch terrain and cars speeding past you.
shift fork? reverse synchronizer? any thoughts on manual trans experts

Downshifting you should still rev match

Toyota did not blue loctite the bolts holding the reverse shift fork. They come loose.
    Synchros can also wear.
Not a bad idea to take apart the trans and loctite the reverse bolts. Maybe new synchros while in there.

idk who sells a synchro rebuild kit. Factory repair manual should have procedure on how to do it

i know to 'rev match' when downshifting. try rev matching when doing 30 into the ditch, missing oncoming traffic and going over the snow bank at night.
i am talking about trying to get 1st gear as im plowing thru the snow thru the ditch and field trying to get here to pull out b4 she gets stopped and buried. cranking it all the way left and up trying to get first in an emergency , all i was hitting was reverse.
now it doesnt want to go in. much grinding, sometimes i can force it and strong arm it to stay in while trying to see when backing up. im not talking normal wear and tear.
the idiots that designed the shift pattern putting reverse next to first were wrong. this is why you didnt see it in the older american trucks.
what i want to know, is it a synchro, and shift fork... or any other possibilities

I agree, and do not know the answer. I am sorry that happened man. There are extremely experienced mechanics on here.

Hopefully it’s not the master or slave cylinder popped
I imagine you’ve already tried putting it in gear engine off to rule that out
Such as clutch start cancel button then hitting ignition to start it moving forward

OP, my guess is you have probably bent the tips of 1st gear/Rev shift fork or have had the shift keys/springs come out of its hub. Known weak problems on the early RA60 transmission.

no, you dont get it. i am trying to put it in gear as its running, to back it up. something stripped out. was just wondering if anyone else has had that, realizing most are automatic trans.
i have to forcibly hold it in gear if i do get it in
Taco '09. that is what i was looking for. do you know if rev and 1st are on same fork? this trans has that 'spring loaded to get into reverse' system like a vw bug. i have no problem with first gear.
i need to get this fixed so this damn truck can be gotten rid of
