Recently I sold my Hyundai turbo 4 banger, and I still have like 20 qts of Amsoil SS 0W-30 left.

I really don't want to waste those 0W-30 leftover from my Hyundai, can I use them on my 3rd gen 2.7L and still maintains good protection? By the time summer comes I can then get some new 5W-30

    thanks

Doesn’t the owners manual recommend 0W20?

0W30 is fine for the 2.7 for sure. The engine is from the era of 5W30 so its rated for 0w20 even though it was derived from an original 5w30. 0w20 is for emission standards and longevity between oil changes.

0W30 is actually the best of both worlds, especially synthetic. It handle the cold starts better, and tolerates high temps better.

All I use. The manual even recommends a heavier grade if you are doing things like hauling heavy loads regularly or towing. I tow quite a bit.

    From my 2015 manual:
The 20 in 0W-20 indicates the viscosity characteristic of the oil when the oil is at high temperature. An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions.

That's Toyota eek out an extra 1 mpg out of the engine to satisfy US emission standards. Everywhere else the recommended oil is 5W-30, pretty much what bishop said there

I guess one advantage of using 5W-30 over 0W-30 is that the former evaporates less and thus won't likely to gunk up and form carbon deposit? So probably I can do winter 0W-30 and summer 5W-30, Even though I don't tow, I do drive the 4 banger Taco like bat out of hell

0w30 is the same as 5w30 except it has a better winter rating, there's basically no reason to use 5w30 in this scenario. Use up all that oil you have!

I went with Mobil 1 Ow30 AFE with the GF-6A rating. I'm happy so far, but don't have enough miles on this oil fill to say a lot, either way. I got it, because I idle along a lot on desert dirt roads, and get a lot of fire wood from the Sierras.
