One of the things I hate most about the interior of my truck ('14 PreRunner SR5 V6 DC) is the cheap-as-crap metallic grey plastic trim on the center console (around the shift knob and cupholders).

I can't possibly be the only one, and I imagine some of you guys have done something about it. I'm looking for ideas.

Show us some pics... What did you do, and how? If you just got an aftermarket something or other, where did you find it?

    Thanks!

Yeah, my thing is I'm guessing the black oem replacement pieces are probably still the same craptastic, paper thin, junky looking and feeling, non-abs plastic, prone to rattling on uneven driving surfaces and sounds like it's about to shatter into a million pieces every time you touch it. Really wanting to get away from that. I know it's a long shot, but I'm really hoping there is an aftermarket replacement piece made of something more solid. Or at least a fairly simple way to make such a thing.

I agree with you about the cheapness of the interior of these trucks. Leaves a lot to be desired. I’ve seen a couple guys on here with 3d printers that have created some custom pieces to replace the trim piece around the shifter. If you have or know anybody who has a printer big enough that may be an option. Or reach out to somebody on here that has made one and see if they’ll build and sell you one.

I vinyl wrapped some interior pieces with a burlwood print.

That is exactly what I would love to find. Can you point me in a direction where I might find someone who has printed one?

I'm not a burlwood interior guy, but I imagine they make other prints right? Maybe even custom? I do like this idea for the steering wheel and maybe, if they make them, for the air vents in the center stack of the dash. Where did you get the prints?

This guy was going to make some for sale. Seems like he’s had some hurdles in the process. There’s another thread called “show off your 3d printed parts”. Some cool stuff in there too. I’ve seen several on here so I know it’s been done.

Looks like a rvinyl or carid kit.

This is just some cheap vinyl wrap from ebay. Was my first attempt and it looks better than photos show. Not perfect, but better than the black & silver plastic.
I did remove parts as it makes for better results.

At some point will replace with something else, maybe a carbon fiber look.

I'm looking into doing something similar. Any pointers aside from removing pieces? Did you rely on a specific Youtube video or...? I'm especially wondering about how to work around curved pieces or those with irregular openings (e.g., after-market stereo face). TIA.

@TegoTaco Very nice. Those are the exact pieces I'm looking at doing. Did you paint the stereo surround or is that a different color vinyl wrap? BTW, which stereo kit did you buy--Scosche or Metra?

So... vinyl wrap is the new mac-tac? ;-)

Back in high school one girl used hippie-mod type mac-tac to cover everything in her VW beetle. Seemed very cool at the time. :-D

    It’s not vinyl wrap. :D

    They are overlays. :)

That looks great! But hang on, what do you mean by overlays? Are you saying they are plastic pieces molded to sit on top of the factory pieces? Me want! :cookiemonster:
    What brand/store/website?!

@TegoTaco Thanks for the additional pics. I didn't see the website/info of where to type in Tacoma to get these. Please re-post.

How long have you had these on? Any issues with these staying mounted especially in excessive heat/cold? Are they easily removable if wanted, or is this a permanent mod?

Oh, and forget my ignorant question about the stereo surround--forgot the 2012+ had better options.

Had them on a week and so far so good, very happy with the quality and fitment. :)

I’m sure they are removable with a help of a heating gun. :)

Here's one I did for my 08 Sport. I color matched the 3 dash gauge rings. If you do this be very care removing them. They just clip in to the dash, but they are delicate.
