Proximity power lock /unlock for powered tail gate mod?

So I just ordered the OEM power lock / unlock for the thailgate. Just thought how cool it would be able to walk up too the tailgate and have it lock / unlock like the door handles, instead of having to walk to the front of the truck to lock / unlock. Anyone have ideas on how to do this or know if this is even possible? Thanks!

 

Maybe an added handle hidden in the tailgate wired in parallel to the passenger's door handle antenna input at the Certification ECU. Or a 3D printed tailgate handle with space for the door handle internals.

 

If a person were really tech savvy, they could probably repurpose a proximity kick sensor (like they have for some mini vans) that are activated by moving your foot under the body, to unlock the rear gate.

 

The issue is that the tailgates usually lock and unlock with the vehicle. You'd need to isolate the tailgate from everything else.

 

Like I said, "if a person were really tech savvy."

I am definitely not that person.
