I had to make my post on Instagram for Rick. I don't follow alot of guys from tw on Instagram. But my message will be seen.

 

Good afternoon. Hope everyone had a good weekend. I am saddened to see that we lost a member may we remember all the good times he shared with family and friends.

On another note, I don't know if this is against the rules in here but I am going to be selling the FOX Pro suspension I have sitting collecting dust. I wanted to offer it here first with the PA guys to see if anyone was interested before I put it out to the public. If against the rules I can delete this post.

 

I heard about the passing of unchained - I'm new here and hadn't run into him, but it's nice to see the community rally around the family. We recently had someone from our hockey league (to which I'm also a new member) pass away unexpectedly, and I witnessed a similar outpouring of support from the community.

 

On a separate note, could I bother people for opinions on roof rack options for our trucks? I'm running the OEM collapsible cross bars, but they are spaced too far apart for my Thule box and are essentially useless. I want to go with something I can use, but don't want to have the bars up all the time for fuel efficiency (lol) and wind noise. On the contrary, I've looked into Prinsu and similar racks (which I realize will be up all the time no matter what), but I can't seem to see the justification of spending $600 on something I don't use that often. Am I missing something there?

What are you guys running? Have suggestions?

These guys honestly have the best looking. Granted they're even more pricy than what you're looking at.

 

So my buddy that I got a job with me. His car broke down last night and his alternator went. They towed it to Mavis. I damn near lost my shit when he told me they are charging him 950$ to replace it. I had him call them back and I laid in to the guy on the phone. They gave him a whole 100$ off. But it was better than the 950 he was quoted. I would of did it for him just don't have the time.

 

wow is that price gouging ? What Mavis ? I'll have to call and shame them.

 

It's a Mavis out by me. My buddy knows nothing about cars so he was willing to pay it. I was like nope call them back right now I need to talk to them.

I'm probably not the best person to talk to on the phone when I'm pissed. And it wasn't even my car. N I was mad for him

 

People need more friends like you to help them in situations like this!

 

i went to a mavis a few years ago down here to have a set of tires swapped on a friend truck. The price they quoted over the phone was false and they tacked on another $40 per wheel for “oversized tires” even though I called and told them the tire size when we made the appointment. The manager claimed these larger tires were “harder or the machines” but acted like he was doing a favor to get them swapped out for me. They were 285/75r16s LOL. took them the better part of 6 hours after we dropped them off to get it done.

So basically, those are clowns dressed in grease monkey overalls, never again I’d recommend them to anyone. They also been expanding so much down here, bought out or took over a local NTB. Very disappointing.

 

I also notice that when you call a local store number some corporate chooch answers so the asshat you speak to isn’t even the same clown at the store, what a great business model for raking a customer over the coals.

 

Yea the one that did my alignment made it worse then what it was. When it was Firestone. Same building. Never had an issue. I also would never recommend them to anyone. They told my buddy if you go online and give us a 5star review they will give him 15$ off. I literally laughed out loud.

 

I really wish I had the time to do it for him. But he need the car by 430pm to get to work. He did 2 days of training with us to see if he likes it. Which he does he's working the rest of the month for his current job then coming to work at the pest company I'm at now.

 

I’d like to know what their job recruiting policy is. I’m guessing it’s something along the lines of “give me your poor, your tired, your hungry, your incompetent”

 

It's tough to keep shops like that staffed unfortunately. I worked in one pretty similar to a Mavis for about 5 years. We had a few great techs who I trusted completely to do a good job and they always moved up and rarely touched oil changes or tires. They were getting higher dollar work like suspension and engine work. Then you always had 2-3 new guys who were fresh out of UTI or ATC with a bad attitude or a complex because they graduated with a B-. It might take a while to find but there are good shops/ techs out there.

That said my cars haven't seen a shop for anything other than warranty work and tire mounting in a few years. Sadly I think I'm going to have to visit one to sort out my AC issues soon.

 

Yep, and that is exactly why I avoid those type of places because you never know who you're going to get. I don't recall the last time I've had one of my vehicles at a shop either I too was going to have someone to the AC repair then decided to buck up and do it myself, it really wasn't that difficult.
