You used the Oem gasket? Did you drop the headliner? I have to install by KC5 sometime this month and am wondering what the best way to install is? From the inside or outside. Any feedback would be major

do the 2 bolts that would be taken out from headliner remain? What would they be attached to if the light is taken off from the outside? Sorry just trying to figure out which approach to go with

Thanks dude. So you did the outside method then. I think this probably makes more sense. Appreciate it

It’s easier…. I did the original method and it’s more work. The difference is a destroyed OEM brake light (the gasket is ruined either way). When you open the slider, you can reach in through and into the headliner for anything you need to accomplish. It’s no issue with the new part as the bolts go in from the outside.

Thanks again for the response I’m gonna get it wired first and then decide which method I’m gonna do. Just to confirm the OEM nuts are discarded once the new set up is in? I’ll post pics whenever I get it done. Thanks to you and this thread & tacomaworld

Correct. The housing is studs, the nuts are flange nuts. Since you’re putting clip nuts on the body, so the bolts go into them. This is what you have when doing the KC5…

Thanks man makes sense. Did those pieces in the body come from Meso? Mine are the same but black. Appreciate your help. I’ll be happy to get this light wired up and on the truck I’ve been wanting it forever.

Correct. I had to trim the corners to fit better. His new ones don’t have that problem. Rocking 2+ years with ZERO issues - well, v1 lense failures… but that’s on KC. Replace with Fleabay custom cut and problem solved. Silly that KC doesn’t offer or sell replacements. They lose their branding logo when we do that.

Thanks homie. I agree the lights aren’t cheap they should replace the covers for free. Hopefully not an issue with the V2. Excited to get it in sometime in March hopefully. Weathers still not great and there’s only a 1 car garage here that my girls mom uses

Hey everyone (and @MESO included). I’ve pre-wired about 20 of these for different people, and I just came across a bracket where the holes weren’t drilled for wire management. Has anyone seen this before? All of the ones I’ve wired have had it all pre-drilled, but it looks like the printer didn’t do it on this one for all 5 slots:
    058906FA-D119-4BC7-8249-D7702710D797.jpg

I’d really prefer not to go rogue on someone else’s stuff and start drilling at will. It kind of looks like the wire management hole placement itself is kind of off in this bracket too compared to the others I’ve wired. The two end holes are directly in line with the integrated gasket. The 3 other holes are all in the exact same clock spot, whereas other ones I’ve wired have had the holes more strategically placed so the wires run neatly. Come to think of it, the ones on the ends that are in-line with the gasket are going to prevent the customer from mounting this (even if I drill through) because there will be a wire smashed against the cab instead of inside of the mounting location. I guess that’s why the other brackets have had the holes clocked differently.

    Was there a design change?

I do recall in the early days, @MESO did a 2nds and OOPS sale. There were various pieces/parts and this may be one of them. Since you have a reference, I’d consider drilling the correct location and just fill those to prevent nuisance collection.

EDIT: I’m adding a picture of the OEM assembly with the flange nuts on the studs to assist others with what they are looking at in there.

Good to know. Since this is an oops I figure it'll just get replaced; they didn't purchase it as a factory second. I'll have the customer contact MESO's support.

No design change. Looks like you have a BD5 from the pics. This housing does have all the wire slots, but the BD5 is a little tougher to route. I just tested one in the shop. I suggest using thin wire to snake though first, then attach the BD wire to it and pull it through. You may encounter some residue powder when fishing the wires through.. just remnants of the print. Easy to blow out.
    Hope this helps!

They are always “sold out” because they are sold on a limited order basis. You sign up for a notification and you’ll get an alert when the ordering window is open. Once you (and everyone else) get your order in it is typically 3-4 weeks later that all of those orders are fulfilled. Typically the only way to get one quicker is second hand here or off of eBay.

Thanks for the awesome post. I’m going to reference it when I do the install. Hopefully within a month now that it’s warmer. Question when you are talking about drilling a little bit You’re talking about the holes on the truck right?

He probably is. I had to file mine to add a little more width as the left bolt was under a little inboard tension forcing the bolt to go at an angle.
