HAHAHA, is this really for you or the kids?:laugh::rofl::rofl::rofl: Quickly went from 200-300 to close to triple the price???!!!

But to answer your question, I've personally never heard of "counterfeits" regarding metal detectors? I understand your concerns though.

I've always bought my metal detectors from actual dealers, but again, I've never heard of counterfeits?

    Nice "heater" btw.

Lol, yeah, probably 80/20 with me being the 80%. Don't tell my wife.

Once I looked at the price of the pinpointer and other accessories it was "only" about $210 more to get the AT Max vs the ACE 400. Seems like a no brainer for all the additional features.

"Don't tell my wife", about what? :spy::rolleyes::thumbsup::fistbump:

Get a finds pouch for sure. Even a fanny pack works.

The one I got is made by: "Dead On Tools"
    https://www.google.com/search?q=dea...Ag&biw=360&bih=592&dpr=3#imgrc=81KlkCBzt-jAWM

I slightly modified some of the pouches to "open them up" to bigger compartments and a few other mods to it. The one in the link looks to be a newer updated version of mine, but I did buy mine a few years back.

Anyways, something like this, fanny pack, etc you should have to put your finds in.

I would highly recommend a good hard stainless steel because some times the plug can require quite the force to "pry up" on. Plus, you will likely come across fairly "graveled soil" from time to time.

I have the Lesche and it's been through some crap for sure. Some people like the Samson T-Handle shovels, some like the Lesche handheld if you will, some like the Hori Hori, some settle for the Fiskars...

I have a Fiskars, but always use my Lesche just because the sheath is attached to my finds pouch.

Anyways, those are some of the more popular ones, but there are a few different ones and it some times will come down to preference.

Is this the lesche handheld that you mentioned?

I'll also be getting a sand scoop since we end up camping in many areas with sandy river beaches (eastern WA) and also along the coast and the inland waterways in Washington (Puget sound/Salish sea).

Fischer and Minelab counterfeiters in China have been known to sell stuff on Amazon, but there are reputable online ones there. If you are in So. Cal and want a Garrett kit, look up Jim McColloch in Landers, he’ll give you a good deal and personal training. Other dealers online like Seriousdetectors and Kellyco are also good.

If you are military, Minelab gives a 15% discount as well.

    Picked it up today.
Not too fond of the bag, the detector sits weird inside and it doesn't pack well. I think I will be converting my assault pack to be the go to bag. That way I can carry the detector stuff and my pans.

Thanks for that information. I've never heard of "counterfeit detectors"? :notsure: But then again, I've always bought mine in actual stores or on-line places like KellyCo. :notsure:

Thank you brother. I will copy and post this in the OP so everyone knows what to look out for.

Thanks for this! The reseller on Amazon is actually on the Garrett authorized dealer list. I'll still have Garrett verify the serial number just to be sure.

Edit: Just cancelled the Amazon order... I'll be ordering from seriousdetecting instead. Less worry about it being authentic.

Awesome, well they got my order this morning and it already has a tracking number. I'm excited to learn to use it around the yard (about 1 acre). I found a carburetor and steering column mostly buried in the back corner when we first moved in, so that might be a good place to start.

I've got a little over an acre and started digging in my yard.:rofl:

So far these earbuds work great. No delay. I've only tested by throwing a metal tape measure on the ground and played with different heights and sensitivity levels.

My detector was delivered today and I spent some time reading the manual, learning the settings, and playing around in the yard. I've got lots to learn to figure out all the information it's telling me.

Here are my treasures. I think the penny says 1990, it's hard to tell since the zinc core is acting like a sacrificial abode and corroding.

I also realized that my steel toe shoes are annoying when metal detecting. Especially if squatting near a hole and using the pinpointer on dirt near my feet.

That was something I noticed when I first tried mine after putting it together. I went to Walmart and go a pair of rubber muckers, no more issue.
I pinched a nerve in my neck a week ago, so I haven't been able to try mine out up here on the mountain. Sure to be some interesting stuff. One of the logging crew found a silver spoon marked 1914 on a hard to reach hillside.
