    Hey folks,

I snapped my rear drive shaft in 2 places on my 2006 tacoma. On its way out the drive shaft broke the actuator mounts on the T case. Tied up the drive shaft and put it in 4 wd to drive home on 2wd but the 4 wheel drive wouldn't engage.

Today I pulled the drive shaft and the actuator and manually pulled the T-case into 4lo. Turn on the truck, turn the switch to 4lo and it won't engage and the lights just flash. Seems like both drive shafts are spinning but I get no power and it just blinks.

I've been reading forums and from what my brain figures, it should be the front actuator. But why would it suddenly go out when the rear drive shaft breaks? Did I f*ck more up than I'm seeing? I use the 4wd pretty regularly and never had an issue and live in in dry climate.

Also had anyone used the Amazon actuator? It is half the price and I'm cheap...

Thanks for reading all this and any advice is greatly appreciated.

You said it broke the transfer case actuator and you took it off to manually shift the transfer case?
If this is the case you would have to manually engage the ADD on the front axle as well because the 4wd ECU will not engage the front axle until it sees the Transfer Case Actuator limit switches and 4H switch in the proper position.
Also since you are trying to go to 4lo the conditions also have to be met for a shift into 4lo.
See my thread below for more info about the 4wd system.

Great! This is very helpful and provides a little more peace of mind to my wallet. This don't understand how to shift the ADD into 4 wheel drive. Everyone just writes a out the t case shift.

Basically you would have to remove the ADD Actuator and slide the collar on the diff to the locked position manually or repair the Transfer Case Actuator so the 4wd system functions normally.
