Very nice trip report. Beautiful country there around Shasta. If you haven't, I highly recommend hiking up to the crags at Castle Crags State Park - 45m south of Mt. Shasta. About 6 miles round trip, and some uphill, but totally worth it for the views and experience of being in the crags.

Oh man we wanted to so bad but this trip was for our 15 yr old dogs so it was a lot of base camp and spoiling it may be our huskies last trip with us. But they had a good lazy time.. they even got hotdogs with us.. 596D8FA1-4CBC-475E-A903-07BC9DAA008E.jpg88D53DED-9E8D-4CA3-BA13-140317F45A50.jpg

Those look like some awesome dogs, and like you did right by them for sure!

You can always hit the crags another time!

And fingers crossed for water and snow as you mentioned. We were at the crags in mid-Feb (few pics below), and planned to snowshoe to the top for the first time (we've been up 3-4 times now, but always in the summer). Anyway, we got there, and realized that when we should be trapsing through a couple feet of the white stuff, we were going to be leaving our snowshoes in the vehicle.

The idea of snowshoeing would be epic! My wife and I used to be big rock climbers and have always wanted to check it out for the climbing as well.. those pictures make me wanna go back sooner than later…

Nice! I really like that suspension foot bridge you found. I'm assuming that's over the Sacramento somewhere, or a different river? Curious about the train trestle too, where you mentioned the water was super low.

When you're in the Shasta area, just a bit south is Castle Crags State Park. Not sure if you've been before, or are a hiker, but I can't recommend hiking up to the crags enough. It is an amazing place, with some of the best views of any hike I've done.

Ya we love Castle Crags! This trip we didn’t go because of our old dogs it was a trip for them to stay relaxed in their orthopedic beds lol. And Yes it was the Sacramento River. As for the train trestle I don’t remember we where just taking roads looking for a camping area. I can prob look it up and figure it out on Gaia. I know we where between Shasta a Whiskey Town area.

Haha, I didn't scroll up in the thread, and I'd already recommended the crags to ya, sorry! When I viewed this, I somehow thought the video was the first post.

I just drove through the area yesterday on my way home from a few days in the Sierra. Amazing how little snow is left on Shasta now, and we're still early in the season.

Hahah it’s all good! Ya it’s scary. Many years in the mountains watching the snow become less and less…

One of my favorite areas. I detour through Shasta to fill up my water at the head waters.
