Tom has generic fobs for $120. You'll need to cut the emergency key yourself, and rent the programmer for $60. If you have folks nearby who want to make spares, you may be able to split the cost of the rental, but that path forward is an example of the law of diminishing returns. So you can make a working fob for $180, and additional ones for $120. UHS Hardware has fobs for $60. I imagine you can program those $60 fobs with the rented programmer, which means you can make affordable back-up fobs, but you need to make them all at the same time.

Real Twilight zone. Almost like 3 years of twilight zone. Sadly the OP never revealed what happened. My guess from doing this myself was that the keys were in the door. I have done this a few times. I know I had the keys when I drove it, but it doesn't detect. Then I slam the door and it starts right up.
