Just got done putting a solid axle up front and noticed some play in the steering wheel. I'm using a brand new steering box from Trail Gear and have adjusted the screw so much that it won't tighten anymore and there is still some play. It equates to about an inch of play on the steering wheel.
This setup is new to me. Is that a normal amount of play?

Are you able to figure out where exactly the play is coming from? Lot's of moving parts in the steering: drag link, pitman arm, steering box, steering shaft, joints, etc. My guess is the steering shaft if you are using the one from TG, they are junk.

Everything is tight from steering box to tires. With the truck off I can turn the steering shaft as it enters the steering box. Not much though before it tries to rotate the pitman arm and everything else.
Turning the steering shaft rotates the steering wheel to the same degree
