I came here to ask a question, but I will say a little about myself first. I am a retiree from UA local 343- that is a pipefitters' union. Before I got into pipe fitting I worked on nuclear submarines at Mare Island Naval shipyard. I was one of the few women who were admitted to the apprenticeships after WWII in the early 1980's. I was a sheetmetal mechanic and worked in the shop on Mare Island and also out on the submarines. I loved my job. Nothing like banging on metal with a hammer to relieve some tension. When Mare Island closed I went to Alameda naval air station and worked on aircraft S-3 s mostly and a few fighter jets Old Vietnam War jets that (I cannot remember now if they were A-6s or A 3's , I am sure some vet can tell me)got reused in the first Bush war. Then I left government work as I did not agree with the first war, nor the second war nor going into Afghanistan, nor bombing civilians , destroying cities, looting museums (or letting the looting happen) etc etc. I looked around for construction work and took the pipe fitters's test, passed it and got hired. About the 3d or 4th woman in my local. Pretty fascinating work. Got to build hospitals, power plants, pharmaceutical plants and many other interesting jobs, (got to work on building a plant for Jelly Belly jelly beans!) and got to work in most of the refineries in the Bay area and see some pretty impressive fires up close and personal (not started by me, lol). Then I retired. So now I do not want to wrench on my car being 73 years old.
I have a question about belts so am going to post my question in the forum
