The perfect mix of old school and new tech

jus got a Maverick hybrid as a DD due to fuel costs and while it’s a sweet ride it is also a computer on wheels which makes me nervous.

Must say though, Adaptive Cruise Control is amazing.

I hate adaptive cruise control, you often don’t realize you’ve slowed down for miles.

It’s adaptive dude. You set your max speed and distance you want to maintain from car ahead and it applies brakes and throttle and keeps you in the centre of lane
    Basically self driving.

    you’re thinking old school cruise

Yeah no, I’m thinking of adaptive cruise control. You’re doing say 65 and you slowly come up on someone doing 62. You don’t realize you’ve slowed to 62. Then they slow to 60 and so do you. Because, well, it’s adaptive.

Well if you didn’t slow you’d hit them. I don’t get what you are saying. You set the distance between car ahead and your max speed. If the car ahead slows you slow obviously and maintain same distance when they speed up so do you.

If you are in the fast lane on the highway and guy ahead is poking along just pass him like you normally would then resume. it’s basically hands free with lane centering

really nothing not to like about it

With old school cruise control I’ll realize I’m traveling slightly faster than the car ahead because I’ll continue to gain on them. So I’ll realize and pass them. I turn off adaptive cruise control in any rental when it’s equipped. I hate it. Much prefer old school cruise control.

Sure but you set a max speed and your car will accelerate until it hits that speed unless there’s a car ahead of you. I suppose if you can’t look at your speedo to determine that the car ahead is poking along in the fast lane then you deserve to be in the old school. Lol.

I've never used adaptive cruise control, but I've certainly used my eyes to determine if I'm gaining on someone and to check my speedo. Seems like a non-issue to me.

To me the point of cruise control is to keep me at a given speed and eliminate the need for an instrument scan. Being able to set a max speed makes no difference. I just find it super annoying to be gradually slowed down automatically.

Notice I haven’t told you your opinion is wrong, because it isn’t. It’s your preference. Crazy isn’t it, how people can have different preferences?

Adaptive is amazing on long highway trips. Ignore the naysayers. Yes you can look at your speedo and change lanes if you’ve slowed down due to guy ahead going slow

it just eliminates you needing to brake and accelerate. It does it for you.

all adaptive is not created equal. That adaptive in your rental may be outdated.

There's a lot to be said for paying attention to what's happening when you're driving. Perhaps that's a bar too high for drivers with all the new nanny tech.

Mike this is your last chance to decide if this thread is going to be about adaptive cruise control or 2nd gen being the best.

    Choose wisely

or anybody that doesn't know how fast they're going for miles.. love my adaptive cruise. Im the slowest person on the road, typically, though. I do like it for slow-downs that go on for a while. truck just stays in position.

Back to the OP's idea about buying another new vehicle to offset the cost of fuel in another vehicle.

    Let that sink in.

Not really to offset. I’ve always had 2 vehicles. Sold a gen3 which I was using as a dd type vehicle.

the gen 2 is used for work mostly. Hauling landscape trailer around and general work stuff.

the hybrid Mav sips fuel for long commutes and it will pull a light trailer safely if needed.
