Not everybody wants to carry a tent, or occupy their entire bed space with a rack, so we came up with this:

We call it the Max Modular Cargo Rack: https://www.max-modular.com/toyota-tacoma-years-2005-to-present-11/max-modular-cargo-rack-tacoma

It has space for tons of gear, but it's only 28" long, so it can be mounted towards the front of the bed, leaving the rest of the bed open for other stuff like firewood and coolers.

We got to have some fun with a Gladiator tonight as well:

It's a more subtle approach to brolanding :dancingbacon:

This is a better view of what it looks like without any gear attached to it:

Love it! Not useful for me with a tent but if I was still using the truck for hauling dirtbikes I would love having this as a cargo kit for when I'm running around town!

How about running a full spare on there?

Yep!! You can definitely strap a full size spare on top of this.

It has pre-drilled holes in the main crossbars for bike fork mounts.

There is room for at least a 37" tire under it.

Big fan of this. Not looking to buy a rooftop tent or use the entirety of my bed with a rack but I have a couple of things I’d like to keep up there (spare, traction boards, etc). Might be looking into this soon!

The response to this has been huge, so I'm literally sitting at the computer right meow designing a wider version for the Tundra/F-150/RAM 1500.

98 lbs? This thing weighs more than some full bed racks.

look where it’s mounted though, all the way forward which will help your CG. 300/600 load rating as well…that’s impressive.

    You are correct sir.

    This thing is substantially built.

Normally we would have made something like this out of aluminum, but material costs are insane right now.

Not at all, Trucks weight distribution is heavily biased towards the front already. And mounting 100 unnecessary lbs above the bed rails will do nothing but raise the CG, which is bad for stability.

The load rating is also not actually impressive at all. A Diamondback SE weighs 90lbs with a 400lb dynamic rating while managing to also completely cover the bed.

I sympathize with you on material prices, but this rack is just too heavy made out of steel,

This rack made the suspension sag a mere 1/4" on our TRD Pro, and that was fully loaded with gear including a very heavy jack. Because it's mounted closer to the cab, trucks will carry this load with no issue.

The load rating is very conservative, but it's a short rack, you would never be able to exceed its weight rating. Load rating is basically a non issue with this type of rack.

CG or center of gravity is not measured up and down an axis, but forward aft. When you put too much weight aft or rear on a tacoma such as a bumper or spare tire, look how much it droops. You won’t have those same issues putting weight more forward.
