I just installed my Rago Fabrication low profile ditch light bracket and noticed that when closing the hood the bracket on the driver side adds pressure to the windshield cowl which cause my windshield to crack. The bracket itself does not make contact with the windsheild. Anyone had that happen to them?

Wow. That’s a big headache. Try contacting rago fab maybe they can help you out if there’s no warning /caution regarding their product causing damage

    A bunch..and no build thread!
I've had Cali Raised brackets (I think they're all pretty much the same) on my truck for a while, I open the hood all the time and never had an issue. The brackets shouldn't make contact with anything but the hood. Any chance they were installed wrong?

Either way, a cracked windshield sucks.

Seems like an installation error. Can you show us a shot from the side? There should be enough space between the light and the windshield that it should never contact it when open. Or its totally coincidental and has nothing to do with the ditch lights or brackets.

I've had Rago Fab ditch brackets on my truck for a year w/o any issue. Lots of openings of the hood in that time.

I’ve had these on my truck for 4 years and my windshield is fine. I don’t think the bracket caused your crack

Can you get a better pic? It almost looks like there was a rock hit and it spread out from there but hard to tell in that pic.

    Oh look, another mod....
That looks like an install issue. The light looks very high. Other ditch lights sit pretty low, and close to the hood. Yours looks very high up.

Reading comprehension is important...OP said it doesn't hit the windshield when hood is up.

I don't know how someone would manage to botch that installation seeing as it's incredibly simple. Plus his light looks just as high as the one from rago's website. My money is on the crack being unrelated to the brackets.

Can you take some more pics from the outside? And also show where its applying the pressure at? As most are saying, it doesn't really seem all that likely, but the perfect amount of pressure with the perfect piece of debris pressing against the windshield could definitely act like a rock chip and spread. Still sounds super unlikely but the only way to know for sure is find the source of the crack. Find an impact, peel the cowling back, see if the crack originates from the edge of the windshield. Definitely wanna figure out the root of the problem before replacing windshield.

looks like a rock hit it on the bottom. As long as that crack spreads down instead of up, it shouldn't be a big deal since its down out of the way

    Over all ditch lights mounted
    [IMG]

Ended up trimming rubber on cowl and cowl itself to relieve pressure from the windsheild

Corner from cowl put pressure on the edge of the windsheild

You can see when lifting cowl, the edge of the windsheild has chipped.

Used a razor blade to cut cowl as a temporary solution to make cowl lower.

Seems exactly as you stated! I don't have this brand of ditch brackets, but maybe someone else with Rago mounts can do some close up pics to compare whats different. This is the first I've seen of this, but will keep a watch on mine (from a different brand)

Well, I went to tag @ragofabrication but for some reason their existence is mostly removed from this website. Wonder what drama went down.

You're right. The black piece that is jutting out under the hood appears to be pulling on the black-plastic-cowling and that is applying pressure to the edge of the windshield. I see it man, you are not crazy.
