Anyone know what this part is and what it does. I discovered a leak stemming from here as you can tell by my finger wipe. Lol.

It’s on the passenger side of the engine towards the fire wall, towards the back of the block.

Trying to figure out how serious it is. Obviously needs to be fixed, but should I drive it or not.

    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

That's your high pressure fuel pump, if it's leaking you should stop driving it may catch on fire...

Does it smell like fuel or oil? How did you spot the leak?

    Holy shit!! Thank you guys.

I’m not 100% it’s coming from there. I spotted it underneath the truck and saw what appeared to be an oil leak, but when I was looking under the hood I spotted this.

still going to catch on fire if it leaks down on cats... You should be able to smell gasoline... self-covid check :anonymous:

I've never heard fuel pumps leaking on this engines, but I would take it to the shop to check if something else is leaking potentially nearby.

If you smell fuel I'd be care full driving it for sure. A good bath and let it dry then drive it slow so the wind does not blow the liquid around to much so you can find its leaking point.

    Mechanical, meaning not electric.
Mechanical pumps are typically actuated by a lobe. Meaning they have a gasket where they are exposed to oil lubrication.

As others have said, ANY sign of gas… replace immediately.
If not, you will need to fix oil leak.

Got it. Thanks for explaining. So I’m theory, could be the gasket that’s exposed to oil lubrication went bad?

Not gonna drive it regardless, but appreciate all the feedback!

Check bolts for torque, if ok..or if tightening doesn’t resolve… gasket. I’m not sure on this one, but typically paper or shaped o-ring.

Toyota really did a bad job on the 2016 and 2017 Tacos.

I love my 16. Has had no major issues until now, but I know a lot of others did. Wouldn’t change it tho.
